Weekly Dev Log for May 10th, 2021

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for May 10th, 2021, detailing all the changes that have happened since May 3rd, 2021. Note: Devs that don’t appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn’t need to be detailed.

Update 0.14.1.4

We’re working on the finishing touches for Update 0.14.1.4, which will bring the end of the Anniversary events, as well as some small bug fixes. Read more about this update here.

Update 0.14.2.0 - Arcade: Phase 2

Work is also progressing on Update 0.14.2.0, which will bring Phase 2 of the Arcade, the new Fresh Store, a Plaza Update, and many other changes and bug fixes. Read more about this update here.

May 2021 Condo Contest Begins!

This month’s contest has no theme! You can build a structure or decorate any Condo, so long as you start working on it after this post is made (and follow the rules).

The contest ends May 31st, 2021 at 11:00 AM CST!

1st Place will win 2,000,000 units, 2nd place will win 1,000,000 units, 3rd place will win 500,000 units, and all participants may be awarded 100,000 units!

Accessibility Suggestions

We’ve created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.

@Lifeless has been working on the new condo, getting the bathroom furniture finished.

@macdguy worked on the coin pusher, getting the coin physics and networking nailed down.

@Johanna finished the sign for Dragon’s Treasure.

@madmijk continued working on fixes for Planetary Piano, as well as working on the “time trial” and “multiplayer” game modes.

@Will worked on music for Dragon’s Treasure.

I kinda want EVERYTHING in this bathroom as standalone furniture objects. I’m dying for more cool looking furniture and these props look fantastic.

Tru, that corner shelf could also have some nice uses as scaffolding or some sort of building supports. (or shelving I guess)

i’d suggest horseracing bets should be fully parimutuel (unless there are no one playing) for much more realistic odds and payouts.

I think it’s saying that the betting pool is funded by the other people betting? Instead of there being a set reward.
Or maybe it’s about how with Horse bets you bet on more than which comes in first?

yeah that seems to be what i’m gathering. instead of a set “get _ times your money” or whatever from a successful bet, everyone’s bets are pooled up and then the pool is distributed to the successful betters, which introduces factors such as getting more money if you bet on an unpopular horse and win and whatnot
kinda like how real betting systems work

i don’t think it should be fully parimutuel though, since sometimes the casino can be sparse and there’ll be times where nobody else wants to play funny horse bet, which kinda defeats the purpose. i think the best solution would be a hybrid where it starts as a basic multiplier, then becomes parimutuel if enough people participate/bet on different horses

for more exciting purpose, this can add something like…

  1. place bet. betting on a number, if what you are betting is on top 3 wins.
  2. quinella/reverse forecast. bet on two numbers, if both are on first place and second wins.
  3. trio. same as above, but three numbers and has to be first to third places.
  4. first four. same as above, but four.
  5. tierce. same as 3, but has to be in exact places. for example, if you bet 3 1 2, then you only win if the first place is 3, the second is 1, the third is 2.

jackpot related:

  1. double and triple trio. like a trio, but you have to win twice or three continuous races to win the jackpot. this jackpot should be a global variable, unlike the others.
  2. continuous first places - try to guess which number wins for multiple continuous races for a share of another jackpot pool.
