Weekly Dev Log for January 18th, 2022

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for January 18th, 2022, detailing all the changes that have happened since January 10th, 2022. Note: Devs that don’t appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn’t need to be detailed.

Accessibility Suggestions

We’ve created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, and possible solutions on how to solve a particular issue, please check out the forum post here.

@macdguy worked on the 2D map for Track 2 of Sunrise Isles.

There is no major dev updates this week, because we are currently working on a very special update that we’re not ready to announce yet. This update will be related to connectivity. Rest assured, you all will be playing this update sooner than you might imagine, and we hope you will love it as much as we do.

spooky secret updates…

Was one of the people who wanted more connectivity in the survey… Really excited to see what solution is being pushed for. Hopefully it works!

Also sadly I think the game world ports server has the paradox of being unused because theres not enough people using it, which kinda sucks. I enjoyed the tactile feeling of queueing up with people in a tower lobby. The 64 player limit makes this hard to do in the Plaza, and nobody wants to sit around in an empty port server… Server browser is only so popular because it’s the only consistent way to get a game going.

Ladies and gentlemen.

Project 24

I seem remember there being an out-of-the-blue update to the Condo Lobby doors… hmmm, I wonder if that’d include the Condo parties

Personally I think the Game Port match making server has several flaws that just need fixing:

  • You can’t start singleplayer or friends only servers in it
  • You can’t join currently running games in it
  • You can’t match up with other Plazas
  • The queue board isn’t really intuitive
  • Going back to the Plaza doesn’t work
  • Queuing up doesn’t really send out a signal to other players until enough players are in the queue AND the queue timer has counted down

So with all of that, it just kinda doesn’t do everything it should properly.

I’m not smart enough to decipher what this could mean but if you guys somehow already finished a huge chunk of the planned connectivity features and are preparing to release them in 14.9.0 or something that would be so unbelievably cool

Anything that makes the game more immersive and social really excites me. Some great memories come from when I’ve rushed over to the gameworld ports or the condo lobby with friends (or what would become friends) while excited to get a party going, especially when transitions between the activities were more seamless. The server browsers are awesome, but I’d love to see more people running around in those areas if at all possible, feels more comfy.

Maybe a poll on what games are played the least is in order, I would like to see some boost to laser tag, LC, bowling.

Each time i join a server its always packed at the casino or arcade, nobody does anything else in the plaza

We did a poll like that a bit ago.

Any updates on VR support?

It’s currently being worked on in the background as a side project, but isn’t a main priority at the moment.

I just realized this was on the day of my birthday
