More Dice and Other Such BoardGame Items

I ran across someone running a DnD game in Tower Unite the other day and it blew my goddamn mind. I’ve been playing this game for years, but I never considered using it as a virtual tabletop, so I immediately ran to my condo to start trying to setup my own cool ttRPG space, and…

And I realized there kinda isn’t anything to build one, apart from a single, solitary D20. Unacceptable! /s

Joking aside, while I recognize it was likely not a design consideration for TU originally, I think the game has the potential to be an unbelievably powerful solution for virtual tabletop gaming with friends, and recreating some of my favourite boardgames in TU sounds like a lot of fun!! So, here’s a short, non-exhaustive, probably to-be-expanded list of items I would like to see added to the game, probably at The Toy Shop obviously.

Let’s get the obvious stuff out of the way first:

More Dice

Where else to start but the thing that stopped me in my tracks in the first place? I would love to see a full set of common gaming dice(d4, d6¸ d8, d10, d12, d20, and maybe crazier stuff like d100 and d16 if you wanna be really cool) available at the Toy Shop. These should have functionality and IO identical to the existing D20.

They don’t need to be super complex and pretty. They don’t even need to be as pretty as the existing d20 item. A set of extremely simple, solid color polyhedral dice would be perfect.

I know i can accomplish what these do with the existing random number generator, but do not underestimate the value of being able to roll your own dice! There’s something about seeing them roll that makes the whole game more fun, and psychologically speaking people tend to feel that the RNG is “fairer” if they can physically see a representation of it being determined (even if it’s all just smoke and mirrors) compared to if they’re just given a readout.

Simple Coin

I would also like to have a simple, flippable coin, with IO for heads and tails. This is also simple and easy to accomplish with existing IO, but it’d be a fun gimmick to have available as a prebuilt option.
Coin should be able to be flipped by interacting with it or by sending a signal, similar to the existing d20 item. Flipping the coin causes it to play a short animation of flipping into the air, then land on one of its sides randomly.
Once again, it doesn’t even need to look super fancy, but if you wanna be extra, it’d be cool to see this functionality get added to the existing quarter item, and having some fun alternate versions of the coin seems like it’d be relatively quick and easy if someone’s bored, like for example a flippable Unit or a D2 or a simple poker chip that’s red on one side and black on the other. I would also love to have a canvas coin that supports different canvases on each side.

Polymorphic Player Tokens

A single item with several variations, akin to the existing Spare Gaming Controller, this simple item would serve to add several different player tokens for board games. This item should be color customizable and should have several forms to choose from, but these forms should all be very geometrically simple and solid-color. Possible forms include (but are probably not limited to):

Meeples:

Pawns:

Mysterious, Legally Ambiguous Traffic Pylons from Space:

Tiny Hats, Boots, Thimbles, Cars, Etc:

Dominoes

Physics-enabled little dominoes would be awesome, not necessarily for playing Mexican Train or Chicken Foot, but for making funny chains and contraptions and the like. I would recommend making this one item with a Top Value and Bottom Value property, preferably randomized when pulled from your inventory (if possible), as opposed to clogging the shop with a couple dozen dominoes.

That’s all I can really think of right now, but maybe more later. :+1: Have a good day!

MEEPLES MENTIONED!!!
I think some simple game pieces are a no brainer. Still holding out hope for those playable simple board games in condos, like checkers …

I agree, a few more items would be nice, so far we only have 2 dice and the chess figures.
But I am also looking forward/hoping for playable condo boardgames
