Yeah, I get that 5 years is a lot of time for a lot of features to still not be implemented yet, but I feel like if the devs rushed it to add everything faster the game would just feel super unpolished. Also it’s worth mentioning that, since release, many of the features advertised in the Indiegogo were released (LC, ZM, Accelerate, Arcade, Casino, Bowling, Laser Tag, Billiards, Fishing, Nightclub, etc.), so it’s not like they’ve just been neglecting the features they promised and then didn’t release right away.
Also unrelated to the post I’m replying to but something a few others have complained about is how the devs spend time working on stuff they never promised in the indiegogo, but I personally feel like the game would be a lot more dull if they only worked on stuff they promised and nothing else.
Like, without the dozens of great condo items theyve added (teleporters, portals, every canvas thing, etc.) making condos would be a lot more boring, not to mention the other condo types which I don’t think were advertised in the Indiegogo either; co-op condo building is also really fun. The Plaza PVP thing that was recently added is also super fun to play with as well, especially with friends.
Honestly though these are really the only things that come to mind when I try to think of features that were added but not either advertised or directly related to features that were advertised in the Indiegogo campaign, I’m sure there’s more but it’s not like they’ve spent time working on multiple game worlds/major plaza activities that were never mentioned in it.
No one’s saying to rush (or even to only work on stuff from the IGG) just to prioritize that stuff more. When you ask someone for money upfront for something, under the promise of certain features, you have an obligation to deliver on those features. Afterall, the game wouldn’t exist without us.
Lemme ask you something real quick. You said it’s “not a priority”. You didn’t say “not planned”. Does this perhaps mean that it might actually happen someday?
Definitely! Things can change and shift around and that’s all well and good. I’m mostly talking about things that were either heavily invested into and removed/scrapped, or things that are of less importance than others but got the attention first anyways. I think one example of this is LC needing a lot of help in terms of balance and becoming fun, but Accelerate still releasing, and too early at that (in my opinion). Of course all I have is an external perspective, but I still think there are decisions I disagree with. It makes me uncertain where the project is headed and I’m holding out hope that it will more resemble GMT with time. Seeing things like parties and improved condo-plaza connection only coming up on the Trello now, after so, so long, makes me worried… (Especially when this sort of thing has been sitting on the Trello for nearly two years)
Honestly, Planet Panic is an even better example. They slapped that together so that they could launch with 4 gameworlds as promised, released it in Alpha and then never touched it again. I’ve always thought they should’ve finished that gameworld before working on newer ones.
To be honest they’ve discussed this here in the past. They ran out of time with their dev team and had to release. It sucks, for sure, but honestly Planet Panic didn’t seem too interesting a prospect (somewhat due to the time limitation), aside from its soundtrack. Planet Panic is so busted that it would essentially be a whole new game world. I would rather see LC, AR, and to a lesser extent ZM, get fixed first. This goes for SDNL too even though I selfishly want it more than anything else out of TU right now, lol
This is just wrong. We tried a new Game World out and it didn’t work out with the tools we had at the time. It’s a completely new Game World that wasn’t based on GMT stuff. We needed a proper vehicle base, which Accelerate now offers. I’ve been working on Planet Panic on my off time to get it out sooner.
Yeah I get that, I remember several times where I was looking forward to something and then development would stop on it after a bit (arcade in 2019 and upgrades in 2018[?] are the 2 biggest examples I can think of).
I’m probably also biased because I’m already for the most part content with the stuff we have now, and there’s only really 3 features I’m super excited for at the moment (better gameworld/plaza/condo connectivity, SDNL & more upgrades for the other games) and it probably feels like development is going way slower if youre more excited for stuff like mutators, VR, or the upcoming game worlds than anything that’s out right now/being developed actively
There’s a work in progress Mutator system already made. We have Accelerate mirror mode in the developer versions of the game and we need to make all the mutator gameplay code for each mutator first before that feature can be “checked off”.
Ok, fair enough. Hadn’t thought of it like that. From an outsider’s perspective, the way the release went and how broken it was, it just really seemed like that was the case. I’m honestly glad to hear that it wasnt.
This is something that I think everyone who complains about the slow development times should think about. Back in 2017 when I was waiting for Arcade (then estimated at late 2018) it was all I really focused on. Development feels much MUCH slower when you focus on deep in the pipeline.
At this point this went from a conversation to a discussion. It’s obvious OP and the team don’t agree and that is ok. That’s why there are more than one way of creating a game. Personally, I think the team has been focusing on what people want but since they are not many people, progress is and always will be slow for some people.
I totally see how some people might be frustrated with how the game has changed but after all I don’t understand how some rides or customization items are so important, especially with version 1.0 not even close. I would like to see the same post once the game is out of Early Access. Only then we will be able to argue if something isn’t there, until then we just have to wait.
