I’m viewing GMT as a frayed rope, torn and old because of the engine it was kept on for so long and what had to be done to just make it work instead of being able to add onto it. It was at its limit when TU needed to be made to solder on, but now you’re going to have more and more people tugging on that rope just to see something through rose tinted glasses or just out of spite. Spite is only going to fray that rope further and further with the toxicity that all of those “classic” projects have caused.

Honestly, just give them the rope at this point and see what happens. It’s not like they have to support it when it snaps.

i think calling us / developers of the new GMT clones “no talent stealing crummy losers working at a McDonalds” is taking it a bit too far. We love GMT, and always will for the memories it provided us, and will provide in the future due to the open-sourcing for other people to host. The dude who started hosting GMT again, Robokid, was and still is an extremely passionate fan of the work that Pixeltail and the ex-devs have done toward GMT. He was “talented” enough to rewrite the entire server-side component of GMT, and also even promoted Tower Unite within the server, which to me is the opposite of a “c*nt” move.

I think that both sides aren’t exactly on the same page, which is causing unneeded aggression between all of us. (I may edit this later with more information and details).

You guy are talented for sure. Comment was in response to the discord shots posted above. It seemed mean. I know you all love the work you put in and of course your players do too. I can only imagine how difficult it has been to make things work. Both could coexist but we all have to have respect for where it started and where the development has taken it.

and I agree. I never disagreed. Stolen code is stolen code.

However, he’s only 16 years old, and he just wants people to have fun. He’s not doing this for profit. None of this would of happened if Mac just talked to Robo instead of immediately threatening him with a DMCA for the server.

edit: Mac probably intended to send the DMCA because of the stolen code, which invalidates my point, but even then, just talking can usually resolve problems, and Robo has attempted to get in touch with him multiple times post-DMCA to explain his side.

You still have to download the rom (probably illegally) and edit its code. As for GMTC, the only “stolen” code was clientside code that was from the lua cache, as far as I’m aware.

What other point would he have for hosting the server? Definitely not profit, because the only form of profit received from that server went straight to Pixeltail for purchasing Tower Unite through Steam.
