Just read up on some of the previous drama relating to GMTā¦ what the actual fuck?
People acting like they have the rights to work that they had no part in creating, comparing mac and other members of the dev team to EA and Bethesdaās shady tactics, and calling this indie dev team thatās trying to make a game some mess-up of a group? This is a group of people who started out making a GMod Game Mode that they received no money from other than donations (please, correct me if Iām wrong on any of this because I want to be correct in my argument). This was a passion project. After a while, it grew to an unreasonable scale. No group of people are going to run game servers and continue their project in their free time without being able to receive something from it. Tell me any one of you are going to continue a portion of your life putting hours of every day into developing and operating a game just to get chicken scratch in return after the costs of all of it boils down. Youāre not, and if you are youāre lying to other people or yourself. Put yourself in the shoes of the devs who are now trying to make successful game while being able to live a manageable life. I mean mac has a fucking wife, heās not going to sit at his computer all day developing something as some type of ācreative donation to the worldā. Itās not manageable.
Tower Unite is a way for them to both continue the project they put so much time and love into while still being able to make a profit. No, profit in this case doesnāt mean āmulti billion dollar manipulative companyā. It means a group of indie game devs trying to make a fucking living. They want to do what they love while still being able to manage their lives and people they care about while they progress just as every other person that has ever existed.
So please, to anyone who is being this much of an asshole, stop expecting them to simply give you GMT with nothing in return. They canāt just drain money into the servers for GMT, they canāt appeal to everyoneās point of view, and they too make mistakes. Just like you, just like every other goddamn human being out there.
This is fucking ridiculous and I canāt believe I would ever see such a disgusting part of the internet in a community like this.
And before anyone starts to point fingers that Iām appealing to one side, Iām not. People have been assholes on both sides of the argument. Iām just asking for everyone to consider that the devs are human beings that have lives and responsibilities outside of PixelTail, and that they cannot sustain themselves without making tradeoffs. Iām not targeting people who made GMT Classic, Iām not targeting people who are opposing the Open Source, because frankly I can care less. I care about the fact that there are people here sitting behind their computer screens absolutely tearing apart people who I have respected for a long time to continue the work they are doing while being bombarded with hate for a decision they had to make to continue to function as people.
