Weekly Dev Log for August 22nd, 2022

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for August 22nd, 2022, detailing all the changes that have happened since August 15th, 2022. Note: Devs that don’t appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn’t need to be detailed.

Accessibility Suggestions

We’ve created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, and possible solutions on how to solve a particular issue, please check out the forum post here.

Casino: Phase 2

Most of the work on Casino: Phase 2 has been completed. We’re currently in the clean-up period, fixing some last minute bugs and conducting internal play tests. We plan on having a Public Beta Test for Casino: Phase 2 at some point in the future before the main release, so stay tuned on our Discord and Twitter for information.

@macdguy continued fixing bugs that cropped up during internal playtests for Roulette, Bingo, Silver Saddles, and Blackjack. He also added physics to the Spin 2 Win paddle.

@Sketchman worked on code fixes for the Roulette wheel.

SDNL: Frostbite

@Johanna worked on props for the map, as well as updating the hangar buildings.

Condo: Drum Machine

@Madmijk continued working on the condo instruments. He’s ready to show off a new addition, a Drum Machine.

With the Drum Machine, you can make drum patterns with a maximum of 32 beats and 16 steps per beat. Pallets with multiple patterns in them can be created to program lengthy drum sessions.

It features a wide selection of instrument variations, volume and pitch control per instrument, step velocity control, swing timing, and the ability to mute/isolate instrument tracks.

As with the other instruments in the future, it will support MIDI input. The note-sound mapping in MIDI follows the General MIDI Drum map.

Unfortunately, the Drum Machine item will not be released with the Casino: Phase 2 update, and its spot on the new Spin 2 Win wheel has been replaced with a “Nightclub Item Pack”. We plan on releasing the Drum Machine, along with the guitar item and MIDI support in a later update very soon.

Plaza

@macdguy worked on updating Metal Detector gameplay.

@joshua continued working on new Store NPC models, finishing the texture work on the Celebrations Store NPC.

Miscellany

@joshua started working on new Halloween items.

@Lifeless continued working on Virus: Theme Park.

@macdguy worked on fixing the physics issues with Billiards and Bowling.

@Nuclearxpotato continued working on Virus: Altar.

@Sketchman continued working on general backend improvements.

@Wheezwer continued working on Steam emotes, badges, and trading cards.

@Will continued working on music for SDNL.

You know what, I think that model fits the mentally unhinged Celebrations Store owner.
It’s perfect.

What the Fuckleberry Finn?

This man radiates rabid energy and I love it. It’d be great if he had some blast spot on his face or something though. The mechanical arm/eye is also a nice touch.

Im trying to be reaaaaal nice when I say this but the Metal Detector and the new Celebrations Guy really… don’t look too good.

That’s a no from me dawg,

honestly my only gripe with the metal detector is that the dots dont fade out before reappearing in the next location which makes it a bit jarring. the model looks sweet as heck though!

I respect and appreciate all the work, but…

Why out of all the issues currently with the game did someone decide making Celebrations guy look like a cyberpunk Bulk Bogan was in the list of things that needed to be done?

I always knew he was an absolute madman terrorist but like, yeah.

The Celebrations NPC looks exactly as insane as I was hoping he would when I saw that you were working on a model for him. I love him

i mean they have planned for a long time now a slow rollout of updated NPC models to replace the fuse models, as you’ve already seen with the bowling and oasis npcs. just cause its not a pressing issue doesnt mean it cant be worked on

We have multiple people on the team working on multiple projects at the same time. Our NPC models are being replaced with custom ones we designed and model instead of horrible stock ones.

Can always be improved, I wanted to get the new model out as soon as possible as the existing one hasn’t aged well. I worked on it over last weekend.

absolutely! the model looks fantastic and i cant wait for it to get in the game

Theme park map for virus? Is that the one they were working on that looked like a sewar or are we getting 2 maps for virus?

there’s a few new Virus maps. Corrosion is the sewer one and Theme Park is an outdoor amusement park. there’s a third one called Altar as well

Imagine Altar has hidden lore that suggests that the zombie disease in “Virus” was actually boosted in deadliness and efficacy by supernatural means (ancient god’s/demon’s interference, etc etc)

I’m a week late to reading this dev log but god damn that drum machine looks fantastic. I’m amazed nobody else has said anything about it so far in this thread but I’m super excited to mess around with it. Will the looping + recording functionality eventually be expanded to the other kinds of instruments too? Would be really cool to link up pre-recorded drum/piano/guitar segments with Condo I/O and make full instrumentals

I did have something like that in mind! It’ll be quite the programming effort I reckon though, to make it feature-complete from a usability point of view. But I think we can make it happen eventually.

Awesome to hear that it’s even feasible! What you have now already looks super neat and more easily learnable than most music software I’ve looked at so I’m really looking forward to seeing how it turns out and just goofing off with it haha. Hype levels to the moon :stuck_out_tongue:
