Virus Mutator Suggestions

While we still don’t know much about Mutators, I still have a few potential ideas for Virus. Keep in mind that, because we don’t know the details, these suggestions may not be applicable to the planned Mutator system. Most of these change the game in fairly radical ways, which may not be the point of Mutators or may not even be possible to implement. Regardless, here’s a few ideas on how to shake up Virus. You’ll notice that these ideas don’t overlap; it might be fun to have multiple of these mutators active at the same time (invisible fully random ice gladiators, anyone?).

How the Tables have Turned
Now that everyone’s infected, it’s time to party! But wait, it looks like someone’s trying to spread a cure!
Probably the least radical mutator I’m suggesting, this at the very least changes the models of survivors to infected and the models of infected to survivors. Now the infected have guns and are trying not to be cured by the normal looking survivor players. Ideally, things like text would also change (X cured Y, etc.) and the survivors would have some sort blue flame (or other effect) to still make them easy to spot as the ones to shoot.

Fully Random Loadouts
Now you can’t rely on getting a shotgun and adrenaline every round.
I like the current Virus loadout system. It’s random, but you are guaranteed at least a pistol, shotgun, rifle, TNT, and adrenaline. This mutator removes that restriction. You will still get 5-7 guns/utilities, but you aren’t guaranteed the normal set. You could even get duplicates of a weapon. Maybe you won’t have shotguns, maybe you’ll have three adrenalines, maybe you’re stuck with 7 9mm handguns, you just don’t know.

Player Specific Loadouts
What your friend has is no longer what you have.
Another reason I like the Virus loadout system is that no one can complain about having a worse loadout than anyone else. Still, it might be fun to give each player their own unique loadout. This doesn’t alter the loadout system; it just gives each player a different random loadout (though it is possible for two players to randomly get the same loadout).

The Invisible War
Use your radar and instincts to find your friends and kill your enemies.
Here, everyone is invisible. Inspired by the current invisible player glitch, you must watch your radar to pinpoint everyone. Certainly not recommended for beginners.

Infections On Ice
Did everyone strap ice to their shoes or something? Everything’s slipperier than before…
You know how you press a direction and are immediately sprinting at full speed that way? With this mutator, it takes a bit of time to get up to speed and change your direction. Jukes might be harder, but so is getting around corners fast.

Gladiator
Completely change up the game and be the last survivor standing.
This mutator completely changes the rules. Here, the infected are constantly getting faster and stronger. If you kill an infected, you also get faster, stronger, and you also get a bit of ammo. There’s no time limit; your goal is to be the last remaining survivor. Once there is only one survivor left, they win.

Well, that’s all I’ve got. What do you think? Remember, if you like them you can vote in the poll as well as with the forum vote feature.

  • Mutators like these are a must!
  • I like some of these mutator ideas.
  • I’m rather neutral towards these mutators.
  • I’m not a fan of these mutators.
  • Mutators like these are a terrible idea!

These sound super fun.

I like almost all of these, aside from invisible wars, that one sounds maddeningly frustrating to play, but that’s just me,

that first one i think could use some tweaks. how about instead of the infected getting guns, and making it simply a model swap (not much of a mutator…), what if the infected play as normal, and the lone starting survivor gets a a special medi-gun? to make it fair, the lone survivor could take multiple infected “tags”, with invincibility frames between each hit (so as to not get dog piled from the start). from there, the game could either play like normal virus (cured people get their own medi gun, the more survivors cured, the fewer hits everyone can take before getting infected again), or they could simply sit out of the round in an “eliminated” state.

while the ability to take multiple hits from infected could be explained as having a resistance to the virus, maybe instead (since lag is a huge issue in the game and still isnt fixed) they get a special loadout of tools to help them survive along with the gun. the medi gun would still be the only weapon, but some one use items similar to the adrenaline in normal virus to defend themselves would be good.

and to make it really interesting (since the beginning of normal virus is stupidly unbalanced for the infected), the last infected standing gets upgraded to a super infected, with more health and a faster movement speed.
