The font copyright/distribution licence can of worms

Hi,

I am getting close to publishing the 1st version of my 1st mini golf map and wanted to add some text in a ‘nice font’ to go with its theme. Being an ex-developer and sometime graphic designer I suspected that font licencing would be an issue, but had no idea how much of an issue.

In short I’ve opened a can of worms and I need a bigger can to get them back in!

Can PixelTail suggest a source of creative commons fonts that would be usable and more importantly acceptable (licence wise) within Tower unite? Many of the ones I have looked at require either designer attribution or a copy of the licence to be included with the distribution.

Any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks.

You might have a better time searching more specifically for “public domain” fonts.
“OFL” fonts will work as well.

Public domain has no restrictions whatsoever, OFL only requires you to include its information if you’re distributing the source files themselves (so, clear to only put in a minigolf map without any additional steps.)

There’s quite a few sites that have a way to filter their fonts by license, even if awkwardly implemented. Keep in mind most font websites are dinosaurs.

I’m a bit apprehensive of recommending specific websites without personally vetting them thoroughly, but I get the impression most top results are considered pretty reputable.

Pretty sure all of google’s fonts are open source and free to use in whatever way you wish, and there’s a healthy selection of fonts there.

Edit: No idea why this page defaults to Thai here, just delete the last part of the url
