After reading this thread, I wanted to give my own suggestions for how to revamp Event Coins.
Personally, I feel the problem is less that Event Coins aren’t given out more universally, nor even that Event Coin items are too expensive- I think the big problem is that the farming of Event Coins is too uniform. As Mac mentioned, Daily Tasks are on the docket, and I’m very eager for them- they’ll help a lot with issues I’ve brought up in the past. But I still feel inclined to share some of my thoughts as potential solutions down the road.
Generally, given the current system, I tend to just leave the game open, hop over to an arcade machine, grab a coin, then tab back out, as this is the most optimal way to get coins. It’s not strictly a bad thing to be able to do this, but the big thing missing, to me, is the lack of ways for one to go out of their way to get more event coins than normal. I have a few propositions:
For starters, I think it’d encourage a bit more diversifying if one could earn more event coins from things such as getting a jackpot in certain arcade games- it’d get people to try a broader diversity of arcade games, and get them to actually try to win the jackpot, even beyond the usual five minute check-in. Perhaps winning a PvP game would net you an extra event coin.
I can’t help but think about Dark Voyage as a good solution too- given its long length, people tend to avoid it, but I think it’d be a great incentive to get people to actually hop on if you got a number of event coins based on your performance.
I enjoy Event Characters conceptually, but as someone who’s been playing for years now, I don’t really have much reason to chase them down just to grab an item I have hundreds of already. I think, broadly, for TU, we could serve to have more repeatable rewards- Like, as an example, a halloween character could give out:
- One of the usual items
- 1k-10k units
- 100-1k tickets
- Halloween Catsack
- Ghoul Coin
- Rare Halloween Item (a Ghoulcery Store furniture item of ~10 coins)
- Exclusive items
- Gold Catsack
- Several Ghoul Coins
And put these in with respective rarity and suddenly it’s a lot more interesting to go after Halloween Event characters even if you’ve already got everything they can hand out. I’m not necessarily saying they should be great payouts, I just think there’s a lot to be said for offering the chance of valuables in increasing player interest, and even without adding new items, TU has a lot of utilities to incentivize the player. You don’t necessarily need to increase how much the average player gets- as long as there’s a chance to get something more it’ll keep people coming back around, even if they’ve been playing for years.
