This miiiiiiiiight be divisive but I’d kill to have some sort of loadout-based gamemode for SDNL. Arcade’s random loadouts are fun and quirky and they’re usually fine but the amount of times I’ve gotten the Bert as my only pistol just for me to die instantly cause of it is way too high.
Having a gamemode where players can select 1 for each slot (minus superweapon ofc) would be very appreciated. Being able to select a revolver and some sort of SMG would really be all I’d need and when I’m playing Arcade this is what I use 90% of the time (the other 10% is when I try to use the shotguns and go 50/50 cause the spread on those is bad, but that’s another complaint for another thread). This being a modifier for Arcade could also be divisive since it’d probably split the community on whether or not to toggle it, but most people play Gun Game anyways. (And I have feelings on that gamemode but that’s also for another thread.)
Alternatively, a weight-based loadout system a-la The Specialist (classical HL1 mod) would also be sick. That game gives each weapon a “weight” and the player has a maximum weight of about four pistols or two shotguns/ARs and maybe two and a half SMGs by default. I think this system would translate amazingly into this game. It even has an option for random loadouts, so if you want the randomness of Arcade, you could go that route as well. Of course, this is all spitballing and whether or not it’d actually work is theory, but I’d kill to see some sort of semi-serious gamemode for this game. Not that the game needs a competitive scene (or that the netcode could support it [sorry, but as someone who loves the game and its jank, it’s not pretty]), but Arena is daunting to newcomers (and nobody plays it) and Gun Game is way too wacky to be serious. (I hate the Katana, but that’s for another thread.)
Of course, this might be a bit too much for SDNL’s ethos of wackiness and lobbies might be split on whether or not to enable the modifier, but I think if you’re going to put a somewhat sophisticated AFPS in your game, you might as well have a “““competitive””” option. That isn’t Arena. Cause as much as I love Arena, I really can only deal with it in duels; anything more is just mess (in my personal opinion!). This suggestion is also kinda close to how Clan Arena operates (vaguely; I think most players just use LG/RG/RL but also that one’s lives-based which is besides the point), which is a very common Q3A gamemode. If we can have Sniper Duels or a 1-life modifier- a modifier which alters the game pretty significantly- I think it wouldn’t hurt to have one more that (probably) gets ignored, right? ![]()
