I’m reaching out with an issue I’m facing in-game in relation to Voice Chat, I believe it may be a bug.
Last week while talking to a friend in-game, all of a sudden I could no longer use Voice Chat.
I’ve done my research, and I’ve verified that there are no active bans or voice bans under my account, there’s no little red message indicating that I have been banned in the bottom right. I’ve tested my mic works outside of Tower Unite in Audacity and my headset does work as expected, I’ve even gone as far as rebinding the mic key from X to another letter.
Voice chat won’t work in the Plaza, it won’t even work in Condos.
The strangest part is that my steam name doesn’t even appear to anyone in the bottom right anymore, as if the key isn’t being pressed. when i hold down push to talk it shows the mic symbol for me as if it’s going through yet people can’t see my name appear nor hear me talk as if i’m not actually trying to use my mic.
Steps to Reproduce
Press mic key
What I expected to happen
For people to be able to see my name icon appear in Tower as push to talk is held down and for people to actually be able to hear me talk.
Also, did the mic stop working in the middle of a play session (like you were talking and it got cut off), or was it on starting the game (the first time you talked it didnt work)?
Correct, i’ve taken the steps you’ve provided, as for what happened is my voice stopped going through not when i first launched the game but in mid conversation at the plaza with a buddy of mine …
1.) Can you still hear other players in Tower Unite and see their usernames appear in the bottom right?
2.) Is the issue still occurring now?
3.) Has your mic consistently not transmitted since you had the initial mic issue? Or has it worked sometimes?
4.) Does the microphone work on other Steam Games?
5.) Have you had any server or connection issues on Steam outside of the microphone issue?
I occasionally have this issue, though I don’t have any leads on why it’s happening or what’s causing it to randomly start happening in the middle of playing.
However, I do know that whenever this starts happening while playing TU (sometimes happens immediately, sometimes minutes or hours into playing), if I try to do the microphone test under Steam’s settings my mic is extremely quiet and barely being picked up, though it sounds perfectly fine in other programs like Discord.
So far the only sorta-fix I’ve found is to restart Steam or my PC, just restarting the game doesn’t usually fix it.
