I’m a big fan of any gamemodes in online shooters with control points, and I think they would be a perfect fit for SDNL’s gameplay, so I wanted to suggest a few popular modes that I’d be happy to see if new game types are ever added.
King of the Hill
Everyone reading probably knows what this is. Two teams fight over control of a (usually small) section of the map at a central location. The first team to hold the point for a total of 2 minutes wins.
Maybe could use similar loadout/pickup settings to CTF (start with 3 guns + weapon pickups enabled).
KOTH Frenzy
A variant of KOTH where the control point changes location every ~40-50 seconds.
Conquest / Territorial Control
(I don’t remember the standard name for this mode so I just picked a name that sounds cool.)
Multiple control points are enabled at once and each team fights to have as many as possible in their control at a given time. After X minutes, the team with the most points wins.
Control Point Volume
A new item would be needed to configure control points in workshop maps if these modes are added and a new type of volume would probably be the best option for that.
Some settings that would be necessary / useful to have:
- Assigned Point: A - J (up to 10 points in a map)
-
- Assigning multiple Volumes to the same letter allows for points to be made in more complex shapes than just a cube
- Gamemode (KOTH, KOTH Frenzy, Conquest): toggles whether the point can be picked in each mode, similarly to the player/physics/etc toggles for existing volumes.
-
- A single volume can be picked in multiple modes if multiple are toggled on
-
- If multiple points are enabled for standard KOTH, one is randomly picked at the beginning of the round
- Pick Chance (%): Changes how likely a point is to be picked during/before a round
-
- Mainly would be useful for having 100% guaranteed and/or random capture points in Conquest mode (and prioritizing certain areas more in Frenzy)
- Start Unlocked: Toggles whether the point can be captured immediately. Points can also be locked/unlocked via IO events
-
- Useful for if an IO event blocks access to a point mid-round
