[0.18.0.0] Mini golf map editor

OK I have been fiddling with the new mini golf map editor and I confess I am having a few glitches,

  1. Your avatar will just randomly get stuck to the ground and then cannot move. This appears to happen most often when placing a golf flag. Unfortunatly I cannot reproduce this consitantly. The only way to unstick your toon is to disconnect and reconnect to the editor.
  2. if you scale the hole green then the flag also scales. See pic. In essence scaling the green also makes the hole and flag larger, and I guess it should not since there is a hole scale option in the manipulate menu. In any case doing so also allows the ball to ‘leak’ out of the hole once it has entered.
  3. The gong (see previous picture) does not hold its positon between the editor and running the map, see this picture. Now it is at the hole level, but in the editor it is raised.

This only happens if you play the whole course from the tab menu and not if you play the hole in the editor.
  4. It is possible to get stuck on the top of the gong if you play the hole in the editor, the gong rings (clangs?) repeatedly and the ball is held. You can play the ball from this position.

Note that the gong is the correct height here as the hole in beaing played in the editor.

Hope the pictures help.

A couple more glitches and some requests for the mini golf editor.

  1. The canon is at 90 degrees to its carrier. Canons on the main maps are not.

  1. Mini golf fairways only snap at 90 degrees. If you have a fairway rotated at say 45 degrees then other items will not snap to it correctly and you have to turn snapping off. This makes it a challenge buiding any course where the holes do not align north/south or east/west.
  2. If there is a build camera, ie something you can use to view while editing and hovering in mid air, I can’t find it. It appears you are a physical object in the editor and so you have to be able to stand on something if building in the air. This makes buiding interesting tarrain an real bind. Please can such a feature be added, or if its there already how do I access it?
  3. Related to the above. If you move an item so that it hits your toon then you are collected and the movement controls become overly sensitive. Indeed there appears a glitch where an item can just zoom off into the distance never to be seen again. If you are lucky you can delete it, if not its either lost forever, or you need to reload. It would be nice to have a homing button which brings a selected item back to your position.
  4. It does not appear possible to have a smooth transition from a horizontal green to a sloping one, such as here in Treasure Cove. Is this planned, or os there a way to build this currently?

Many thanks.

This is completely unrelated to the minigolf editor. In previous versions, searching for an item then dragging it out into your condo would always cause this.

This game is like Garry’s Mod, press V for noclip?

You will need to set the cannon’s power and landing location before it’ll angle it for you.

They’re designed to work on a grid based design. But what you are describing is how grid snap functions, not the minigolf pieces themselves.

You can noclip (fly) with V, or press ~ to enter advanced build mode.

Many thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the info on no-clip, I never played the gary’s mod version so didn’t know about v or tilde.

Sorry I didn’t explain the cannon issue very well. When at rest the cannon is twisted at 90 degrees to its carrier, as in the previous post. When you set its firing point it is still twisted at 90 degrees to its carrier. See below

The carrier is normally in line with the direction the cannon is pointing, like this.
cannon correctly on carrier

and oddly they are in Treasure cove,

but for some reason the carrier model is twisted around 90 degrees so it is not in line with the cannon in the editor and when you test.

While on the subject of launchers in general.

They appear to behave differently when testing in the editor and when playing the map. So thats cannons, drums and gysers. They work correctly when playing via tab and the ball lands at the marked point. However they are too weak when testing by interacting with the start pad (pressing ‘e’). In this case the ball lands short and not at the marked point.

Edited on 16 Aug 24 - changed wording to hopefully try and explain what I am going on about better.
