Will Tower Unite Be Crossplay And On Consoles?

Will Tower Unite ever make it to Xbox or Playstation consoles? This would be a very huge stepping stone for the game and would bring in drastic success. I know this is something that probably won’t happen overnight, but I do highly recommend this and just wanted clarification on this question on whether this will happen or not.

It’s pretty much a zero chance, since the game relies on steam’s inventory to function.

Not to mention the steam workshop. Console versions would not be able to use workshop items since that’s connected to steam (not to mention the legality of it is kind of sussy since most custom models are ripped from other games)

you CAN run the game on a steamdeck though.

And that’s why being reliant on Steam is a bad idea that I don’t support. There are more issues with relying on Steam, but that’s one of them. And let me ask you: How do you think VRChat got through with their own Workshop system, not connected to Steam? I’m not sure what development team size they have, but they managed to do that and still are going pretty strong. The only actual problem that is correct here that I can see is the question of legality that you bring up, but outside of this, not relying solely on Steam would have had been very much possible and waay for the better.

Even if Steam Workshop wasn’t used. There’s still a problem with user content.
By taking VRChat as example that too isn’t on consoles for a reason.
Games like TU and VRChat are not like Playstation Home that Sony has it under control at the cost of user’s freedom of content.

If TU takes that route it’s possible PixelTail Games could ask around to official 3rd parties stuff including Player Model and furniture.
But I don’t think that’s even possible with their budget.

We’re lucky Steam Workshop can be use like this. It’s pretty much a good middle ground for user content.
Otherwise TU may get on the headlines like VRChat due to NSFW not under control.

This is not mentioning the Condos where a lot of stuff is tend to be user made with such as canvas.
If TU were made for consoles with just the Plaza and Game Worlds, no user made contents it could be possible.
Losing out Condos and Workshop sucks.

And unfortunately, this seems like a PC only game as a result.
It’s too much a user choice.
It may not be like VRChat, but people really enjoy using user made content whatever that is original or questionable “fan uploads”

We could ask for a character creation. Having not just humans, but anthros too.
That’s about it, and I don’t think people would use it anyway.
(I would, but I’m like the 0.1%)

We can only hope Valve starts making new Steam consoles again. If Steam Deck says anything.

One alternative for OP is the use of Moonlight and Sunshine, a remote game streaming app.
I played TU on Xbox One a few times through this.

But I’ve been playing TU mostly on Steam Link (the actual hardware not app) these days.

The user content problem is what I was talking about with the legality issue if TU were to come to consoles. But to be fair, I was primarily talking about lifting off some of the restrictions that Steam Workshop and it’s rules impose on PixelTail Games on PC, because at least I personally don’t mind the game being PC exclusive, if it’s more compatible with people having their freedom with user content. I probably should have had made that more clear earlier. Valve, even though they allow a lot, are still a bit too restrictive on what Workshop allows and does not. Recent example of Nintendo or someone pretending to be them (don’t know which of the two was actually the case, actual Nintendo or the guy pretending but still) forcing Facepunch to take down a bunch of Gmod addons should be a pretty clear sign of problems that I’m talking about - And there’s honestly even more stuff than that that is problematic with Steam Workshop being controlled by Valve for the most part, but I don’t think it’s worth going into the details of that.

Hosting our own custom content library is exceedingly expensive both due to development costs, bandwidth costs and legal costs. It’s also an endless cost that grows every year.

Steam Workshop despite its various issues, is very well managed. It’s always reliable and fast, has no bandwidth limitations, the install process is easy and integrated into Steam, and their recent changes have sped up installations and updated how things mount better. It’s still getting updates by Valve which Tower benefits from immediately. I would like to see Valve reach to the point where it could be possible for consoles to use it, but Valve is a PC company first. Steam Deck is technically their only console.

VRChat is a AAA budgeted game, they have 10x more developers than us and over $100+ million in budget from various investors.

If Tower did get ported to consoles, we would most likely have to lose the custom Workshop content to even get approved on the console, anyways. User generated content is not a priority for the console creators.

Thanks for all of the explanations. I think I understand the problems better now. I’m pretty fine with Tower Unite staying a PC exclusive game myself, but it’s nice to dream for some others.
