Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Tower Unite Dev Log!

2024 Snowman Contest

This is a short contest for building snowmen in Tower Unite!

So, just make a snowman in Tower Unite!

The submission period ends on December 12th (NEXT THURSDAY) at 11:59 PM CT!
PRIZES:

1st place - 300,000 Units
2nd place - 200,000 Units
3rd place - 100,000 Units

Everyone will get a 50k Units prize for joining!

Winter 2024-25 Condo Contest

Hey everyone,

The 2024-25 Winter Condo Contest has started!

As usual, we’re doing a Winter / Festivity theme.

So, your build should be either: winter-related, themed after winter holidays / holiday activities (including New Years), or generally wintry and festive!

The submission period ends on January 22nd, 2025 at 11:59 PM.

Profile Backgrounds

@Wheezwer continued working on a huge batch of profile backgrounds.

In addition to these profile backgrounds coming soon for everyone, @Wheezwer also created a few animated profile backgrounds for all our patrons to use!



Plaza

@Johanna continued working on plaza optimizations and polish in preparation for our 1.0 release, while also fixing various bugs for the upcoming Plaza update.

@Lifeless updated the area behind the Laser Tag arena.

@macdguy worked on a bunch of under the hood code changes, bug fixes, and detailed areas of the Plaza.

Miscellany

@Lifeless worked on trying to fix AMD GPU crashes. He also made some changes to the Hospital map in Virus.

@macdguy fixed issues and bugs with the inventory, as well as implementing a quick action bar. He also worked on code for the Holiday items, as well as work on the Shooting Gallery and the Vroomspeed Store.

@Nuclearxpotato continued working on the Minigolf map, Dino Drive. He also worked on Holiday items, setup the new profile backgrounds and polished some upcoming items.

@Sketchman continued working on optimizations and fixes.

Has the Oculus controller fix mentioned in last week’s dev log been released yet or is it coming in a later update?

Not gonna lie, the casino lounge seems unnecessary to me, as cozy as it looks. Looking forward to the new Holiday Items though! And it’s great that we get more backgrounds

With so many profile backgrounds (which is great btw)
I have a feeling this will be a sensory overload on the Tabs.

Will there be an option to disable it as a Accessibility option?
As an remove everyone’s backgrounds so it’s plain?

It was just to open the Billiards room so there is no closed area in the Casino. When billiards for Casino is ready again we will put the tables there. The room itself was already done, we just put some tables and chairs and removed the billiards tables.

I was thinking this too. There’s lots of “Pretty” areas in the plaza that go completely un-usued because there’s not much to do in them except sit on a few chairs…?

Mac mentioned billiards will go in here but idunno. Seems like a waste of space.

We are quickly removing anything that was under construction in the Plaza such as finishing the Ice Cream shop and filling in the billiards room in the Casino, finishing Vroom speed, etc.

The room itself was already made quite awhile ago for the casino billiards. I just quickly decorated it with some chairs and tables (took 20 minutes of my time). The change makes it look more complete than a turned off sign and boarded up room. When billiards for Casino is ready, the room will be updated again.

I also believe it’s fine to have a lounge room in Casino. We have talked about making Casino be its own server chunk in the past, and it having a lounge would be nice if that happens as well.

If you’re gonna add a hypothetical new lounge area, a good place might be the upper balcony areas.

That would require new artwork, where as the lounge in the dev log was already arted.

On the new card backgrounds, are all of them animated?

I think there needs to be a good amount of still ones, the pride flag quilts could just be still stripes.

Can we please get some static profile banners? The world align on each banner is nice and all, but sometimes I just want a simple banner with no animated pattern at all. Even like the old test banner that had I think the plaza as shown in #patron-media quite a while ago, I think that’d be totally fine as a banner.

Also, I think if there should be anything added to the Casino Lounge area, it’d probably be a media player. Otherwise, it might end up being just as used as the other couches in the casino. :confused:
