Weekly Dev Log for August 31st, 2020

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for August 31st, 2020, detailing all the changes that have happened since August 24th, 2020. Note: Devs that don’t appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn’t need to be detailed.

Work continues on getting the next update, ready for release. This update will contain Workshop Condos, which will allow players to upload their condo to the Steam Workshop for other players to download and explore. To see everything that’s slated for this update, click here!

Workshop Condos

@macdguy continued working on Workshop Condos.

Last week, he worked on the canvas explorer which allows the condo owner to view all of the canvas data, sorted by file size, so that the condo owner can manage their canvas data better. He fully implemented the Workshop Condo canvas cache which will upload canvas data directly to workshop, to prevent dead links.

The server browser will now show that a condo is indeed a workshop condo, and before joining will display the workshop condo’s information to the user prompting them to download it before joining. The Workshop Condo upload UI was completed, including a system for taking screenshots and tagging within the game.

Finally, an intro and outro was added. When the player joins a workshop condo, it will display some information that the Workshop Condo author provided (such as screenshots, description, etc). When the player leaves a workshop condo, a prompt will appear allowing the user like the condo, favorite the condo, or view the Steam Workshop page for the condo.

loving the idea of the canvas explorer! and the ice cream guy is looking better every time.

That new desertion art pass is looking phenomenal! I love the new colours, the new props, and all the new attention to detail. Its giving the place a real personality.

Also the new Oasis store is also pretty neat! Any love and new life added to the plaza (which has been the case these last few updates) is always a  in my book.

Desertion art pass? uh YEAH, I sure hope it does

also i really can’t wait for workshop condos, now I won’t have to open my haunted mansion condo for people to see it

I’ve been loving the aesthetic upgrade Desertion is getting, but I’ve especially been enjoying noticing all the layout changes, such as the removal of the small room next to the raised platform. Can’t wait to play Desertion again for the first time!

love the new look for desertion
