Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for August 26th, 2024, detailing all the changes that have happened since August 19th, 2024. Note: Devs that don’t appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn’t need to be detailed.

August 2024 Condo Contest (Sci-Fi)

Hey everyone!

The theme of this month’s contest is Sci-Fi!

So, think alien invaders, spaceships, laboratories, robots, high-tech cities, or anything else like that that reasonably fits the theme!

Your submission can be a regular Condo or a Workshop Game World Map. The submission should be something that was made after the contest was announced.

Winner will take home 2,000,000 units!

The submission period ends on September 2nd, 2024 at 11:59 PM CT.

@macdguy added an Arachnophobia Mode which turns spiders into blobs, and added a new boss, a machine gun wielding T-Rex!

Zombie Massacre: Map Maker

Work continues on finishing up the Zombie Massacre Map Maker.

ZM Map Maker: I/O Support

You can now customize the sub-objectives. You can also manually start sub-objectives or use the auto start feature. There are also IO outputs when an objective passed or failed.

The Zombie Spawner now supports Activate and Deactivate, along with an IO input for manually spawning a zombie class of your choice.

ZM Map Maker: Helicopter-less Escape

You can make maps that don’t require a Helicopter.

ZM Map Maker: Sub-Objectives

@macdguy made some basic stock sub-objectives for use in maps.

You can use these for your ZM maps, and they come with sound effects and all that setup for you. You can of course still make your own sub-objectives.

He also added IO events to sub-objectives when players are progressing the objective and when they are not.

Completing a sub-objective will give your team 600 points, and players who are inside a sub-objective will get 25 points every so often while in it.




ZM Map Maker: Better Tools for Testing

@macdguy added more editor controls for ZM. Now you can toggle zombie spawns so you aren’t getting mauled to death while you walk around your map. You can also easily switch the days.

@Johanna continued working on the Arcade, finishing the Air Hockey table and shooting gallery room.

@Lifeless worked on fixes for Minigolf: Kingdom.

@macdguy worked on the Zombie Massacre map maker, and added weapon and lightgun support to VR.

@Nuclearxpotato continued working on the Minigolf map, “Dino Drive”.

@Sketchman worked on setting up the new workshop skeleton.

@wheezwer worked on art for the virus map, “Theme Park”.

@Will worked on music for SDNL.

my god. i’m looking forward to new trex boss, i’ve been waiting a new boss for a while so this is great. strong “tower unite” vibes too!!

REALLY happy about this one!! I hate realistic spiders so this is a plus for me. lol Though; it’d be nice if we could have a plush version of spider as option too!! I don’t find them creepy/scary at least

Super excited about ZM maker stuff as well :slight_smile: i love the sub-objective concept as well!

I know this isn’t a surprise at this point; i’m still and always excited about new maps on ball race and mini golf. that new golf map reminds me of Jurassic park so i see where this is going!! >:)

Finally. Been waiting for the T Rex in a long time! I hope we get a boss rotation mutator so we can decide which boss to fight!

LMAO amazing, better than I could have hoped. Dinosaurs are finally coming back to ZM and I couldn’t be happier…
UNLESS there was a way to edit them later on to make them look more zombified maybe?
A friend and I were talking about how Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 was TERRIBLE because of the ai, but was also kind of amazing cuz the final boss to lvl 1 was a zombie elephant. Just something to think about!

I wonder if recreating gauntlet legends/dark legacy levels is possible using ZM IO
e.g, collect this key to open the door to continue

You definitely could, you can make the sub-objective small and reduce its pickup duration.

You can also do this with normal IO and have a floating key and a Trigger Volume that you hit to collect the key.

Which reminds me; are you allowed to change location per day? Like have everybody spawn in a different area depending on which day it is? Like (player spawn) Condo IO using the ZM SDK allows (which ZM day)?
Something tells me it’s a big “yes” but since it’s not released yet I’m curious.

Yes, you can set on the custom spawn points which day that spawn will be active for.
