Title pretty much says it all; anyone know how much time in between each treasure hunt event?

No, it’s more common then that, though it’s still awhile between hunts. I don’t have a specific time, but it seems like it happens every 15 to 20 minutes or so.
If it has become 20 minutes then the cooldown has been changed in the 0.6.0.1 update because at the start this event (update 0.6.0.0) had a 60 minute cooldown just like the other ones.
I think they start at h:20 and h:40 of every hour.

An event that happens occasionally where you use a metal detector on the beach to find treasure.

Oh okay. Does everyone have a metal detector, or is it something you have to buy/get? I haven’t gotten a chance to play the game yet, so I’m just browsing the forums while I wait. Trying to get a better understanding so I can go in with a little bit of an idea of what’s going on.
You can buy a metal detector from a store called the stray, which is located behind the bowling alley at the end of the boardwalk, I think it costs 3,500 units. Keep in the mind that the metal detector is pretty much only used for the treasure hunt event for the time being.

Alright, is 3,500 units a lot? I have no sense of how fast currency is acquired yet.
Takes a bit of work, minigolf and zombie massacre pay out quite a bit, or you could gamble in the casino for units, bowling is usually a good bet, but it’s been kinda glitchy recently.
