One of my friend’s condos has oddly problematic behavior, and I mean only this friend’s condo (other people’s condos and the rest of the game is fine). But last night was particularly unstable.
Usual behavior (which still isn’t good tbh): I visit my friend in their “Condo” map (to my knowledge these are P2P connections using Steam Networking, right?) and after X-minutes my system will hang for about an hour before the game + Steam properly crashes to desktop. I restart my system, Steam, the game, and only then am I able to connect and peacefully hang out with my friend for the rest of the night.
Last night’s behavior: I have connected to my friend’s condo three times (doing my usual restart behavior between each time). What kept on happening is that one of us will send a message in the in-game text chat and i can clearly see that Steam crashes. Tower Unite somehow sticks around for a minute after Steam’s crash before hanging my system then crashing itself.
Here are logs of the fourth time, after the Steam crash I close Tower Unite myself instead of letting it crash on its own: https://pastebin.com/kq2bV3Si
Here is detailed system information: https://pastebin.com/bVeJWEUM
Information about how I am running Tower Unite:
-Native Steam package from the Software Manager
-Proton Experimental
-Launch options: __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia gamemoderun %command% -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -NOTEXTURESTREAMING
-Using the mostly the Steam Deck graphics preset, but with antialiasing turned off and capped the game to 30fps
-Installed on the Kingston SSD listed first in my system information
Can I get an ELI5 about what in the world is going on here and if there is anything I can do about this. I also posted about this in the Linux Mint forums, since that is the system I am running.
