Something that really annoyed me during the Halloween event

The Halloween event was fun and all, but I need to get this off of my chest
I am sick of all of these RNG’s
The Casino can be excused because its a casino. I also didn’t really care much for the Catsacks.
But I draw the line at putting an RNG in a TIME EXCLUSIVE item dispenser. I would have prefered a shop where we used the Forgotten Remains as currency, but that didn’t seem to be the case.
I bring this up because I don’t want the main feature of the Christmas (and possible Thanksgiving) event to be an RNG.

These gambling mechanics are a very lazy way to design games. It adds more unnecessary playtime and though it may keep more players in the short term, it will eventually burn the players out.

Some games have tried this lazy practice, like Vermintide, and the game lost more players than it kept with its RNG formula, and most of them never got to enjoy the contents that developers added.

Pretty much most of the things are random in TU besides the gameworlds

  1. The casino and everything about it
  2. Random Trivia topics coming up. No category vote system.
  3. Bowling physics being not deterministic. Not RNG, but unreliable.
  4. Gold catsacks behind Silver catsacks (behind catsacks).
  5. Halloween character visits
  6. Forgotten Remain rewards

(Although minigolf physics is not deterministic as well, it’s mostly reliable).

I don’t expect them to receive changes. In fact, making changes to things like the catsacks would only punish those who already had spent so much units on it.
However, I really hope to see this lazy mechanic does not make a return unless it actually adds to the experience.

Bravo. Ever since this recent RNG debate started, I’ve pretty much seen nothing but what could be summed up as “Waaaah, RNG”. This is the first post I’ve seen that actually goes into detail about the exact problems with it. Granted, I’m not entirely opposed to RNG but you do bring up a few good points. But, just for the sake of debate:

  1. I have no problem with this. Real casino work in a very similar fashion.
  2. A category system has been suggested before and would definitely be a good idea.
  3. I’ve only bowled once in the game, so I can’t really comment on this.
  4. Since Silver Catsacks are purchaseable, I definitely think Gold should be as well.
  5. Agreed. Maybe the events could have a token system instead, were instead of giving you a random item, they could give you one token and you could redeem them at a special event shop.
  6. See above.
