This would be a really nice addition! Though, I’m not sure if putting it in your hotbar would be a great way to toggle it, since it isn’t available in game worlds.
I think having a section for them in the player’s profile tab in the main/pause menu would be the most practical, near the currencies.
Additionally, it’d be fair for the timer to not tick down if you’re in the main menu or paused in singleplayer game worlds, as well as notifications that it’s active when you first join a game world or the plaza (think of the seasonal coins after doing activities), and show the remaining time underneath and/or in the profile tab again.
Unit multipliers shouldn’t tick down in stuff like Condos for example, but Experience multipliers would.
…also I just had this thought: I know that you proposed that the multipliers don’t stack, but would they be affected by 1.5x/Double Unit/XP events?
Possibly! I’m not sure how difficult adding new UI elements would be, but a dedicated “multiplier” toggle button/window might work well.
I’d say don’t stack the multipliers in any circumstances. Whichever one is active and the highest (whether calendar event-related or purchased from arcade) always takes priority. Before activation, a warning window would say something like: “Warning! If another unit/EXP boost is active from any source, it will not stack with this multiplier. Are you sure you want to activate?”
The main purpose of the purchase-able multipliers is to add an (expensive) way to slightly level the playing field a bit for games that are notoriously slow to grind, and may not have existing double unit/EXP multipliers for them on the current calendar. This way, players won’t have to wait for 2 weeks for the calendar event to roll around for a gamemode they want to grind - assuming a calendar event exists for it at all.
I suggested this as a thing for the Cooking update, albeit it was alongside a Calendar Refresh suggestion. I really like the idea of being able to have boosts that aren’t tied to calendar days.
I think your idea is infinitely better though, tying them to the Arcade.
Oh man, to be honest I completely forgot that cooking is going to be a thing.. Is there a consensus yet on what kind of rewards it’s going to give? Multipliers as a rare cooking reward might just work well, I like the sound of that a lot. The purchasable ones in the arcade with tickets are like a guaranteed way to get 'em, but cooking could incentivize a way to get players excited for the prospect of getting them for cheaper if you’re lucky. That way cooking isn’t just a “100% it and never do it again” type deal.
As far as I’m aware, no, there hasn’t been anything said about what kind of rewards or effects cooking (and alchemy?) will give.
And I agree, I would like more than one source as well but if it had to come from one, tying it to an already existing currency could help with engagement. I’m not sure how cooking will work.
While we’re here though, I’d also like to add the idea of something like Toontowns “Unites”. I mentioned it also in my og post, but I think it’s something that would work well with boosters in general. TL;DR Separate boost from the individual one that’ll work in an AOE to give the same effects. It could incentivize more group activities as well as help with newer players who haven’t been able to put the time in but still want to play with others who have. These wouldn’t stack in any way with the individual boosts, it’s one or the other.
