Public Media Players – Casino, Bowling (and Condos)

##Suggestions about TU Media Players

The Bowling Lanes

As I’m sure you’re all aware, there are already many public media players like TVs in the game.

There are the ones in the beach houses, the ones up at Project 12 (the bar on top of the tower), the giant screens at theatres 1 & 2, etc. …And then there’s this one.

For whatever reason, this TV in the bowling alley isn’t an actual media player, and I don’t understand why (as so many other locations in the Tower Unite lobby have working media players. This would be a great way for players to share music with each other as they pass the time bowling, rather than individually streaming their own music (which they could still do if they choose).

I recommend that if such a TV is implemented in the future, that it be on by default much like the screens at Project 12 or the Theatre, but that players have the option to turn it off.

Other Public Spaces

This then brings us to the addition of media players in other spaces. For the moment the only other place of addition that I can think of is the casino; after talking with other players on the Seattle, it seemed like having the option for a TV at the casino is something that is wanted, but never officially requested. Lots of actual casinos have many TV screens, and music in casinos is quite standard as well. These media players could be placed angled downward on the glowing white poles (there are four, and could all play the same media) or be placed on the walls, or maybe even in the red-carpeted pits that currently just hold some seating and lights.

Given that many players already multi-task while at the casino, I think this would be a good addition, and could work in the same way as suggested for the bowling lanes so that players could turn off the media client-side if they want, for whatever reason. Having something to look at/listen to while playing more ‘tedious’ slots like Wheel of Money where some individuals sit for long periods of time would be helpful, and in the case of people who use macros, could potentially cut down on the number of afk players.

In Condos

Although this has been requested before, I thought I would tack this on to my suggestions post anyway. Having media players on by default would be a great addition to condos – it would help to set ambience if condo owners wanted to, and in all honesty it’s more realistic to have media players if someone is joining an on-going condo party.

It came to my attention that someone walking into a condo and having nineteen different sources of sound blasting at the same time wouldn’t be ideal, so perhaps a max cap of 1-3 default media players would be ideal. For places like custom-built theatres that many players have, this would be a much more immersive experience than walking in and seeing a bunch of people staring at a blank TV or projector.

Webpage Videos

While I understand that this is an under-developed area and there are other priorities (such as releasing more player content and areas, etc.), I – and others – often like to play webpage videos such as direct links to HTML5 videos in the condos, since they can’t be queued in places like the theatre.

As I understand it, players can join in on a YouTube or Soundcloud media halfway and still be at the same timestamp as everyone else who is watching, but when a player joins in the middle of a webpage-type media, they end up having to watch from the start. If there’s any way to have it synced up with other players in the way it currently works for YT and SC videos, it’d make condo parties around the TV a lot more functional.

In summary:

  • The TV in the side room at bowling could be an actual media player
  • Media players in places like the casino would be nice
  • Having on-by-default media players that can be turned off client-side would add a lot of functionality to the game in this area

Well, that’s it for now! Hope my first TU suggestions post was clear; please give it a +vote if you think they’d be good/reasonable ideas. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure the TV in the Bowling Alley is to be used for an intro video to bowling, like they have for the Condos in the Realtor area and like the TV inside of the Lazer Tag area.

Cool ideas, but having a media player on by default should be toggleable. When a media player is on for me i get a massive FPS drop by 30.

Casino. Media players.

You are a genius

Not so much a great idea to have media players on permanently, as it strangles the FPS if you’re not running a monster of a PC.
I drop to 30 when a media player is on compared to when it’s off at a solid 60.

That’s good feedback; reasons like this were why I initially suggested that media players could be manually turned off one-by-one on the player’s end.

Having a setting for this too would be good, maybe on by default, and users could toggle it off if it’s not a feature they want active.

Oh that would make sense, I asked Caboose700 on Discord yesterday and he said that as far as he knows it was never intended to be a media player object (but that it’s subject to change).

If that’s the case, it’d be neat to see features like radios that broadcast audio-only, though that could be problematic for YouTube videos.

for the default media players thing, have two different options. the admin of a condo can set default players that are always on. then, a player can go into their pause menu options (probably video settings), and toggle a “keep default media players off” or something. then everyone is happy.

and yes, if they added TVs to casino, i would never go back to the theatre. always wanted to get paid watching memes
