Today we wanted to get your opinions on worst case scenarios for our game’s Early Access Release.
Basically, we’re trying to figure out what major components you truly are interested in.
Condo Floorplan Editor
Specifically editing the condo floor plan: walls, floor, ceiling. Without the editor it will be a static condo map.

Advanced Player Customization: Clothing, Facial Features
Clothing, not hats. Hats and colors will always be part of customization.

Workshop seems, from all the features, the one that can expand the lifetime of the game content and features while other features are also missing. Although I would suggest to try and get some kind of community events for it in order to build content for the game even before launch.
Workshop support requires more effort on behalf of the devs as well. Making it so that community levels are compatible with the game could require a give-and-take between the devs and modders.
Unless it will be as simple as Gmod where additions are easily added.
However, even in Gmod there are problems when updates occur. So that would likely create conflict in Tower Unite as it updates as well.
If it could be done in a way that would not be disruptive to the ongoing development of the game, I’d be all for it. I definitely think it’s a necessary feature for the final state of the game.
I ultimately voted for the Condo Floorplan Customization, mainly because it’d be something that I think can really draw in the creative side of gamers when Early Access comes around.
However, I think that the Casino should be getting more love too. Based on the “not 100% confirmed” roadmap of the Amusements released today, it seems a lot (if not all) of the Casino objects are up in the air. I think it would be kind of disappointing for some people, if the first Public Release of Tower Unite had the casino, but no functionality.
People that buy Tower Unite in early access will have probably played or at least heard of gmtower. At risk of making TU simply look like a shiny version of the original gmt I think that some explicitly new features have to be introduced.
The condo layout editor is brilliant for this. Not only does it provide an expression for creativity but it will also be a good way to display just how much potential TU has early in development.
Advanced player customization would be nice but it doesn’t inherently add anything to the game other then looking pretty(thats important too!) I would say it should be finished soon if it can be finished but if its severely detracting time from things such as gamemode development than it can wait.
I honestly do not care about workshop support in the early access. The game will probably still be rather buggy and have a small playerbase so I don’t think we’re gonna get much from it anyway.
I share Caboose’s opinion on the casino. It would suck to have the casino all built and prettied up and to not have anything in it. Also the casino minigames already exist in gmt so it might be a bit of a turn off for new players who buy TU coming from gmt and don’t see casino games.
Though I’m fairly excited to get an arcade I don’t particularly care about when it comes out.
As for what I really wanted? I personally want both the floorplan editor and the casino games equally but I ultimately voted for floorplan editor because of the creative potential and draw it could bring to TU.
Clothing is a must for early access imo, I picked Casino too, Love spending time with friends in there. Doesn’t really NEED to be in early access, But i’d love it anyway.
Clothing is more important that Condo customization for me, Character customization and such was a big part in why I played it so much, I grinded GMC so I could get all the hats, So worth it.
The customisation is what made it so good for me, too. Even with being limited to a player model, face and head item.
When I saw how many customisation sections there were on the TU Alpha, I was shaking with sheer joy. I love making myself unique and more ‘me’ in virtual environments.
I really can’t wait to see where they go with this.
(That said I hope there’ll be leggings so I can do with my usual white shirt/black leggings combo ahah)
EDIT; And boots. Boots are cool.
