In the 1.16 update, netherite was added, making it faster than than Diamond.
Netherite is faster than diamond, but it’s still slower than golden tools, at least according to the Minecraft wiki.

I personally interpreted the question as to which pickaxe breaks the fastest, vs. breaking blocks the fastest, though gold is the correct answer for both.
