Let the client calculate the physics in mini golf!
I know that it can atract a lot of cheaters but it would make the gameplay smoother if the host has a high ping. And for me gameplay is more important than cheat prevention.
It has been stated many times that this is not going to happen, not only in Minigolf but for every gameworld. The devs are reworking the physics system in order to (hopefully) fix the “unable to shoot” glitch (note that the actual physics will not change, just the system used).
They are not “reworking” the physics system. But they want to implement more client side prediction and lag compensation. Mac also once said that they want to test a fixed stepping for UE4’s physics system.
While I agree with letting the client calculate ball race physics, I don’t feel like precision is that bad of an issue in minigolf. Even with 150 ping you can get near perfect timing on it, but in ball race you require almost split second reactions.
If I recall correctly, they were changing how the physics were done. Perhaps “reworking” is just me wording things incorrectly. Here’s the post I was thinking of when I said that:
My point is simply that they are changing Minigolf to try and solve the aforementioned glitch.
