I went to Sonic today, drive-in. Got a large onion rings with my meal. They were bad. The whole thing was messy and falling apart and it had no flavor.

Moral of the story, Sonic is only good for shakes.
Yeah but those mozzarella sticks, ho boy…
I’ve had their onion rings at a few different locations, multiple times at the same locations, and it differs extremely. They’re more inconsistent than how much ice they put in their Route 44s
I always ask for no ice in drinks. Ice takes up all the space and leaves you with hardly any drink! Ice is a total scam-o.
I usually try to take my time with my drinks, but I suppose it would make sense to get them without ice
If you take your time then the ice you got will melt and absolutely obliterate the flavor!
Not exactly, with root beer it barely mixes in, in my experience c:
It’s a bit like Checkers, but it’s not.
I don’t know, it’s a drive thru restaurant. I actually like their onion rings, when they’re not full of cooking oil they’re really sweet and beautiful.
True in so many ways. The quality of their food is almost below prison grade.
Definitely the way to go. That’s a very good fast food hack. NEVER order the ice with your drink. They fill it up to the top so that there is hardly any space for the drink. You can fit a lot more water in a bucket than a bucket full of rocks. And like you said after, the ice melts and ruins the flavor.
I don’t know if I’d call it a restaurant. Anyone that prepares their food in 2-10 minutes is fast food in my eyes. They have a larger menu than some other fast food places, but its still fast food. Take the onion rings you like for example. Those are deep fat fried, which is a very common cooking practice at fast food joints around our country. French fries are cooked the same way.
The only thing I’d personally recommend there are their shakes and smoothies. You can mix the flavors and they taste pretty bomb. Avoid the artificial sweeteners if you can though. They typically contain Aspartame, which breaks down into formaldehyde in your stomach and stays there. Causing all kinds of problems down the road. (PS: Aspartame is in ALL diet sodas. If you drink diet sodas, PLEASE STOP IMMEDIATELY. Otherwise you are highly likely to develop MS[Multiple Sclerosis] at some point in your life.)
Onion rings?
More like DONEion rings

This is why you go to Whataburger instead (if you have one).
Nearest is 8 hours away! I think the best we got here is Five Guys.
Five guys is really really good, and I’d be happy to go there, but Smashburger takes the cake. I’d never turn down a smashburger.
Whataburger is where I reminisce about living in east texas and I want some comfort food, so I go order something stupid and I love it also i miss rootbeer shakes
Old post, I know, but the EAL article you’re linking to is basically saying the exact opposite of what you’re claiming.
From the link (http://forums.pixeltailgames.com/clicks/track?url=%2Fclicks%2Ftrack%3Furl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.andeal.org%2Ftopic.cfm%3Fcat%3D4089%26post_id%3D60643%26topic_id%3D10290&post_id=60643&topic_id=10290):
"First, the methanol from the intestinal tract goes to the liver via portal blood, where the liver enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase converts methanol into formaldehyde. The body very rapidly uses formaldehyde and so formaldehyde never builds up in the body. If the body doesn’t need it, formaldehyde is converted to formic acid within seconds. The formic acid will be either excreted in the urine or broken down to carbon dioxide and water.
The fact that methanol and formaldehyde are breakdown products of aspartame sounds scary to consumers. Therefore, it is important to know that formaldehyde is produced by our bodies every day in amounts thousands of times greater than you would ever get from aspartame, as it is a key metabolite that is needed to make other essential compounds, including DNA. Also, the known toxic effects of methanol relate not to
formaldehyde, but to the build-up of formic acid in the blood. The breakdown of formic acid is slower than the breakdown of formaldehyde, so if there is a very large dose of methanol (or formaldehyde) coming into the body, formic acid can build up and that causes the adverse effects seen in methanol poisoning.
To put this into perspective, studies in healthy adults and infants consuming up to 200mg per kg of body weight (50 times the amounts Americans consume on average), showed no change in the levels of formic acid in the blood."
No need to panic over Aspartame or Coke Zero (which I actually recommend, it tastes surprisingly close to the real thing), then.
Sonic is awesome, okay? Whenever I’m back home in Texas, I always stop by for a footlong chilli-cheese coney and chilli-cheese fries, with a large cherry-green apple Coke. Sonic is quintessential Texan cuisine.
Whataburger is awesome too, though.
Five Guys is great as well, but it isn’t exclusively U.S. Southern, so I can’t sing its praises here.
