This feels far too strict in putting you “back on course”, especially when I was basically already back on the track when it kicked in.

It puts you back on track if even the very front of your car pokes off of the track here, which is only a mild exaggeration.
Ah, yeah this has been a thing for a while. It seems like the out-of-bounds trigger is just a simple square instead of several smaller ones to better fit the turn. It would be nice if this was changed since while you shouldn’t really be hitting the tracks edge in the first place it’s inconsistent how hitting the inner edge of the final turn will register you as out of bounds while riding along the edge on other parts of the track doesn’t.
