Joining while the game is in progress

I joined a Gasoline game which was on Day 4, the game had started, when I joined I was dead, but I was not able to spectate other people I was stuck on this screen for the whole 2 minutes:

And secondly, a guy joined after me, but he got into the game and was able to play:
