Draping Curtains (that’s the name I set aside for this) would require much MUCH more work than the existing Basic Curtains, sadly. Essentially they’d need to be skeletal meshes with animations, which raises a whole heap of problems:
Collision is a nightmare and needs to be recreated in freak ways
Open Range cannot be adjusted with the current Skeletal Door Base
They’re more cpu-intensive than the existing curtains
They’d be less customisable than existing curtains (you’d be limited to scale and textures essentially)
For comparison, look at the Shutter / Garage Doors I made using the Skeletal Door Base and you’ll see some of these issues. Unreal 4 won’t scale Physics Assets (collisions for skeletal meshes) dynamically in uneven ways; when scale is set to 2x3x1, the collision will be 3x3x3. To work around this, the shutter door’s collision is actually like 10 rectangles that follow the animation on top of the mesh.
I have a few ideas on how I’d do the collision for Draping Curtains… but it’d probably be really scuffed lol.
THAT BEING SAID, I really WANT to do Draping Curtains at some point, but the amount of headache inducing crap I’d need to do always puts it really far back on my list… and recently my list has been PACKED (Halloween>[SECRET]>Arcade>Food>Pool is essentially my workload as of late… and that’s not including the Winter stuff T-T).
Draping Curtains would probably also coincide with Window Blinds (the amount of moving parts dictates it would be a skeletal mesh as well), so I’d definitely need Open Range restored for Skeletal Doors.
Can’t collision just be disabled for both the curtains themselves and the players? I mean, not sure how much that would help, but it would be one solution if it were possible to do.
I am very happy to know there is strong interest in additional curtains; especially draping ones; it’s something i desperately want!! there’s so many builds that needs them so i hope you figure it out, i believe in you!!
Works like “Mirror” and “Canvas One-Way Wall” combined like that! Would be very useful to have in halloween builds, offices, grocery stores, detentions, prisons, supervising test experiments, arenas, games, secret areas, etc ^o^
A suggestion that for some reason I couldn’t find anyone else ever making: canvas tube square corners. It’d make arched/vaulted ceilings in castle hallways much simpler to design.
Not quite; imagine a canvas piece that would be used to make vaulted ceilings in a castle corridor. Now imagine that corridor has a square 90 degree turn in it. The item I am talking about would fit in the inner quadrant of that corner; a hole from two directions if you will.
That would potentially be useful, but pyramids would look out of place next to canvas holes, tubes, or elbows thanks to the weird way the angled sides react to light while the others render their shading normally.
Still, it is a trick I hadn’t considered, thank you for sharing it!
I’ve been meaning to introduce condo versions of the pool tubes like a single seat one with physics and the stacks that equip a temporary one.
I’ve sorta been holding these ideas back because I would really like to allow players to select any tube they own instead of just a default one… but I could maybe just do the default one and add that functionality when it’s read later.
Wearable that gives you SDNL movement in plaza - I’ve only played like 5 hours of SDNL but whenever I go back to normal gameplay afterwards I feel so slow…
