Idea to fix textures, But TONS more ideas

As the title suggests, I am sure everyone here has struggled with their build going through the headaches of their walls/canvas textures/art being taken down, or no longer being visible. I have a solution for that, but it’s more than just a solution. Much more.

Backstory: I played a game, back in… 2006/2007 It was called Kaneva, the game had similar aspects to TU, just much older technology. But i will say they did great with a few things. The community was very tight nit. there were groups, and these groups would band together, build clubs (in their condos) and invite friends to parties, and just mess around, talking and having fun. Kind of like TU, but the community was much larger. They had interactive dance floors, that when you initiated on it, a “DANCE DANCE Revolution” style mini game would pop up. And people hosting parties, would hold dance competitions, if you mess up and fall, your out and the last person standing would win a prize. just a fun little way to bring people over to your condo, little prize incentives.

But larger than that, getting into the main topic, they had a community hub if you will, a social media platform. In the boom of Myspace, and the up and coming Facebook at the time, they had a nice little area where people could talk to their in game friends, they each had individual profiles, where you can share pictures, or advertise parties, share links to your different builds/clubs (snapshots) But the best thing about this entire entity, was the way you can source textures, or images from other people.

You essentially, create, design, or make your own textures, and upload them onto your profile. You name it, and select if you want the image to be shared privately, or publicly, or with friends (in this case you can create a whitelist of who you want to share them with) but essentially, these shared textures would be accessed, in game all you do is type the texture you are looking for. Brick wall, and then all of a sudden you have thousands of different brick wall textures, uploaded by other people. And these images being hosted on the game, would not need to worry about the URL’s expiring, changing, or disappearing.

Additionally it would allow people to go to your profile, and like, or up vote your texture, or images etc.

Another thing that was pretty big, was the customization of your avatar. I know right now a lot of the people like using workshop avatars, but If ever you get to a point where you can customize your character, and change their clothes. you can implement a way for people to design their own clothing via paint, or whatever other programs they want to use. All that would be needed is the clothing template, then you can put it in paint, blender, whatever you want to stylize and change your own clothing. Or, put it up for sale in your own community store. Allowing people to be able to earn units (or a special new currency) specifically for trading, and buying clothing from each other.

just an couple ideas to build off of, doesn’t have to be this specifically but hoping it gets those creative juices flowing to create something great for the community.

Honorable mention, would be cool to implement a way to access computers within your condo’s to access this community website, or via cell phone. Kind of like how you can use arcade games or emulators to play your favorite games, IN GAME, this would bring social media into the game allowing others to connect with each other even if they aren’t within the same condo. Shoot a friend a message through a messenger app in your phone, or log into your computer at your condo to advertise a party. Etc, it brings a certain immersive roleplay element to the game while also being very useful.

Another thing that i would like to see, would be the ability to name your snapshots, for example (The Twisted Castle) And allow people to upload an image to the snapshot, so that way it doesn’t say “dirt” and show a flat image, u can show the icon of the club, with the clubs title. When you host your condo, you can type “join the party!” and it says condo name + image of the location, to appeal to people to want to come and visit.

Anyways, this is a lot to take in, sorry for the book. I hope this finds someones eye, and gives them some ideas. I would really love to see these find there way into the game at some point. I am sure its already a lot of work just keeping up with current things, but i believe a couple of these ideas would draw in more people to the game, and breath a new life into the community that the game would thrive off.

A couple quick answers - Social media would be cool but doesn’t really fit the game, at least in my feeling. Tower is better off staying as it is.

Unit trading - Ha, I wish… People tried and tried to get this through for years but there’s one side of the community and developers themselves who reject the idea out of fear that real value for units would emerge, despite that sort of already happening (or so I heard) and ignoring just how much this would improve the game despite large drawbacks - Best we are going to get is condo currency since that is (or maybe was? not sure if it’s still planned) an confirmed thing - It’s something but honestly, I’m not the biggest fan considering the cost of that would be actual, proper trading system never being introduced.

Custom clothing - This was actually something that I tried to get through a few times on the forums myself but from responses I gathered it turns out that, at least as of current plans, only default player models will get that which sucks but is kinda understandable - Although I do wish there was a way to make this work with workshop player models in some nice way if this was introduced.

Texture uploading - It’s cool as an idea but should probably stay as that. The main worry here is content moderation. Tower is an game for all ages, that I get, but I feel like people should be allowed to have NSFW condos with pictures that aren’t illegal but just, well, adult oriented in some way - Such a system, while it would help detect people having illegal content pictures of any kind (certain stuff to do with kids, real life gore/brutality and a bunch more) easier would be an double edged sword - It’s not too hard to imagine Tower’s devs getting a bit too much control and ease of enforcing their word over content in an social game where people should be for the most part allowed to be themselves. I was never and am still not a big fan of social games such as Tower Unite or VRChat attempting to control content that people can display in private spaces (and yes, I do realise VRChat doesn’t exactly enforce their content related policies too often with moderation and it’s why the game is as it is, rather than because of things being specifically allowed). I hope this point isn’t misunderstood but when and if something like NSFW/18+/adult/mature tags for Condos were to be introduced (which I still hope to be a thing but I doubt it would become one) and moderation were to enforce people utilizing any sort of adult content to use these tags, then well, content control should be a bit loosened.

not really sure what you mean about it not fitting the game, I think it would fit the game perfectly. It would be a place for friends to communicate with each other, share pictures, posts, and make friend groups, upload images, videos, and allow you to access all of this within the game itself, without needing to use discord, or any other platform.

as for the trading, its a grey area due to potential RWT, and people just abusing and destroying the economy. Which was why I only mentioned it as exclusive clothing only currency, though im sure it would have its own kinks needing to be worked out. as for the player model, they could just create a universal player model, that the clothing models fit to, and allow people to customize that specific model but within specific parameters that mesh with the clothing properly. Workshop models would be too weird as they mostly are already clothed, so layering stuff would just be weird. I like how it is with just adding accessories as is, thats already really cool feature for WS models.

As for the texture uploading, its a universal database, as for moderation… there are ways to have AI determine if an image is suitable or not (though its not always correct) but for the NSFW stuff, just allow it to be tagged as NSFW. check boxes, Private, Public, SFW, NSFW etc. Also, if they are planning to allow NSFW tags on condo’s they need to have an age verification system, and have it to where unverified people cannot access these condos. You have to select the tab specifying your condo is 18+ and or has NSFW content, so that way when looking thru condo’s u cant see them or join them. I would love to play this game with my son, but due to the laxity of these things I’m afraid he wont be able to play until these things get put in, last thing I want is for him to accidentally walk into one of these condos not really knowing what any of that even means.

But I agree, they should maintain the freedom they have, just with mechanical locks and an age verification, or u know at the start of ur acc creation when it asks what ur birthday is or whatever.

Parental controls, etc.

People should always be able to express themselves over these types of games though, its meant for people to make friends, and hang out with friends and its easier to meet people with the same likes / dislikes.
