Host migrations for game worlds

This game needs host migration because it’s really annoying when you’re enjoying the game with others and then the host leaves and everyone gets kicked. Thanks.

Edit: I wanted to post this in suggestions, can someone move this please?
Edit: Thanks for moving it, Caboose700

The most annoying thing in games, but it’s better than being disconnected, so you have my vote. BTW this should be moved to the suggestions section.

Host migration is simply something we cannot do, unfortunately.

Limitations with the Unreal engine?

Yes.

ah, that’s a bummer. Oh well, luckily these are only mini games, and it’s not that hard to find/start a new game. Plus you earn most of the Units at the end of each round, so it’s not like you’re losing much, unlike other games where you earn it all at the end of the game.

wtf, i had to look this up because i couldnt believe it… damn

what about sort of a workaround to manually add something that kind of resembles host migration like:

  1. the game locally somehow keeps track which round you are on (maybe also other variables)

  2. when the host leaves, your own lobby gets hosted with the same progress variables (you will be alone in this lobby of course, its like hosting a new lobby)

  3. so while you do get kicked out of the actual lobby, you will have a new lobby, which starts at the round you were at when the host left.

…this way, you don’t have to repeat the whole map.

idk, just throwing this in in case it maybe helps in some way.

I think the best solution we’ve talked about for this was to keep track of all the progress and the players on everyone’s machine. When the server closes you are tossed into a “map” that is basically just a UI with a list of all the players in the game you were just in and then the game picks the best host and it rehosts… then sets the game back up with the stored progress. By no means is this easy, however.

Sounds like a great solution. For now, in my experience, hosts leaving isn’t that big of an issue, especially since I host most of the games I play myself. So, personally, I wouldn’t mind waiting for this feature if it means other cool stuff coming sooner.

Little bit off topic

I can’t wait to get to my condo and check out this Gizmo update. Yesterday, all I did was play mini games.

That sounds very hot. Definitely one of the features a lot of people would probably love to see before the official release of the game.
