Group Items Together Permanently

So I frequent a server that’s pretty open build. We are encouraged to avoid workshop items to make sure that the server doesn’t get overloaded and laggy. We build what we can with the basic materials we got instead!

Now, all this is to say that we run into a frequent problem since we make a lot of custom furniture and structures out of primitives/canvases/etc. Moving these custom made multi-part items is an extreme hassle! Having to select each piece every time is time consuming and really troublesome since some of our creations can contain many, many parts. I know there’s group select, but you have to carefully group select the object without missing a single piece every time or else you risk messing up your build.

So, my request/suggestion is this: make us able to group items together and SAVE those items as “grouped”. Like, instead of selecting the parts each time, you just do it once and press a “group lock” button that tells the objects that they’re a packaged deal. So going forward whenever you click to move or scale or rotate one part, it does so for all parts.

For an example, we like to create custom planters for our flowers. But the issue is that now whenever I need to move my planter, I have to carefully make sure each piece is selected each time I want to move it! When if I could tell it that the plant, dirt cylinder, and tube are a “group”, I could simply click somewhere on the planter/dirt/plant and it would select the entire homemade object.

Does this make sense? Think of it like how in an art program, if you have many layers under the same folder, you can move just those layers by just clicking to select the whole folder at once, instead of having to click or drag and hope to get every layer each time.

This would be an amazing way to make moving things around and renovating SO much easier!!! Please consider this. Thank you!

This is actually a thing. There’s just not really any tooltips or hints in-game for it, so it’s very easy to miss. After selecting multiple items, you can press G to group them together, which does basically what you’re describing.

The problem is though, is that in a co-op condo they often don’t group, and if they do, it only becomes grouped for the client that did it. Anyone else will see it ungrouped, and on rejoin the client won’t even see it. Basically as if it never existed.

EDIT: If you want things to be grouped while you work on a co-op condo, you’ll have to ask the host to group it for you.

Does it permanently group it tho?

Tested it and it works! Tysm

I would like it if we could edit the xyz of the group though. As in, altering the numbers directly for more exact placement.

Yeah, this would be great. Ideally, there should be a little cube that shows where the game says the center point of the group is too.
