I would really like a wire that follows a spline, for more tech or cyberpunk decorations. You could also increase the radius for pipes.

This is an item niche I’ve had in my head for a while and haven’t quite figured out what the best solution would be.
Canvas Splines are something that’s planned, but that shouldn’t be the only way someone can put a simple decorative wire… but I’m not sure the current system used for RopeFX would really work outside a wire that’s fastened along a surface. And quite frankly I’m getting tired of using a Canvas PNG for wires lol.
The best idea I’ve had for a simple wire item would be a Cable particle (I believe that’s what UE4 calls them) which behaves similarly to the Source Engine ropes; connect two points and a cable is drawn, affected by gravity. I could look back into this, it has been a while since I last tried it.
So the canvas spline would be for static wires, and the physics one would be for moving ones, I imagine? I don’t know UE’s physics system very well, so I can’t offer any ideas there. By “planned” do you mean “we haven’t gotten around to it yet” or “it’s not possible to make at the moment”? Not to be pushy, just curious if I should keep an eye out for it on the trello.
Source Engine’s ropes are still one of the best things that oldie of an engine has to offer, I have to say. They are pretty simple, but really nice and fun to use. The only thing they lack is physics you could turn on or off depending on your needs so that you could interact with them, but there’s probably a reason besides just practicality for why that’s not a thing with Source’s ropes or even in anything more modern like Unreal Engine 4. Now, I don’t know if adding physics to such rope systems is even possible - But that’s precisely what this had been making me wonder about and why. And even besides that, it’s honestly more of a side note thought more than anything else - Something that would be cool to see but would probably be unneeded effort to implement, if it even had been possible.
