Errors in poker hand evaluations

I was just recently playing high stakes poker and witnessed a hand in which both players had identical (as far as their cards would be evaluated) hands. They both had two pair, and suits did not come into play. One player was awarded the pot even though the money should have been split for even hands.

Then, in the game that immediately followed, the cards came out as such that I had a 7-8-9-10-J straight and the other player had a 6-7-8-9-10 straight. The other player was awarded the pot in this case as well, even though my straight should be evaluated as the winning hand.

In both cases the player who received the pot was the same, so it is unclear to me if it is a problem with the code in high stakes poker or if the player was somehow bugged to always win hands.
