Easter Egg Scramble is a little boring

The Easter Egg Scramble minigame (the one with the falling eggs at the minigame arena, not the egg hunt) feels a little underwhelming, at least in my opinion. It is kinda understandable since it literally only appears for like two-ish weeks every year but a few improvements would be appreciated!

In particular:

  • Eggs feel pretty sparse and spawn far apart, making it difficult to build up combos. Payouts are usually pretty lame compared to other “stuff spawns and you have to grab/shoot it” minigames (the best score I’ve ever gotten for this one is 5600 points)
  • The optimal strategy that I’ve found involves jumping a lot to grab eggs in mid-air, which is kinda fun but it makes the minigame feel mostly like a clunkier version of Fruit Frenzy (the eggs falling makes jumps harder to time and there’s no air dash)

If I was the one working grueling 9-to-5 shifts in the egg factory seven days a week, creating exclusively egg-based entertainment for less than minimum wage, and thus didn’t have much time to perfect the egg falling game, this is probably what I would’a did:

  1. Double the amount of eggs that spawn

  2. Maybe add a horizontal movement ability (like SDNL-style sliding or something)

  3. Maybe add a point bonus if you get an egg right before it cracks or something, sort of like the long shot bonus in Balloon Burst

I think these changes would probably help a lot to give this minigame a bit more of a unique feel. Instead of just jumping around, you could also slide around to try and get the ‘egg almost splat on the ground’ bonus and get big points.


Also, this would probably be too much effort considering how short the Easter event is, but some sort of extra functionality for the basket would be fun. Like, maybe you could throw the basket with the same controls/physics as the Laser Saber in SDNL, so for example, if there’s an egg about to fall in front of you, you can just throw the basket and get it. I think that would be good.
