This is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while now, and every game with a multiplayer component that has a progression system usually ends up being better with this feature.
What I mean by earnable banners is small graphics that display next to a username either in the score menu of a game, in the lobby of a game, in the plaza, condos, etc.
I’ve attached an example of simple banners below from “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2”
There’s plenty of flexibility with this concept and it could very easily tie into the progression system that we already have. Banners could be awarded for things such as -
- Getting specific achievements
- Spending credits
- Reaching specific levels in games
- Participating in holiday events
- Completing certain non-achievement challenges in games
The possibilities are endless, and this could also be a way to tap into the talented art community of Tower Unite, as holding a contest to design Banners could be a fantastic way to get the userbase more involved. This enhanced progression would also make some players who would normally be “try and move onto another game” players really feel like they could invest more time into the games because of what can be unlocked.
It would add a different flavor to the game, and possibly Workshop support for banners could be implemented.
Imagine if you’re like me, playing Ball Race until your fingers bleed and you finally reach Rank 250 or 500 (or however far along you are), you reach that coveted rank that barely anyone has to go along with your leaderboard position and you get a shiny attachable banner to commemorate that achievement.
What do you all think? It’s simple, easy, and if done properly could very positively impact the community and the game’s multiplayer longevity.
