Dynamic Lights Not Working on Most Light Objects

I was going to use dynamic lights in my condo, but realized that almost none of the light objects that are supposed to support it support it actually work.

The only objects that do work are a couple lamps, the chandelier, light FX, and some street lights.

The lights that do not work are the shaped lights (circle, triangle, hexagon, etc.), floor lights, wall lights, and mostly everything else not included in what was listed that works.

In the provided images, they do not detail every light that does not work but you can see a clear difference between the ones that don’t work and the ones that do.

This depends on two factors of the light:
1 - If the light is an Area light (most lights in TU are Point or Spot lights)
2 - How large the range is

Number 2 is the one that applies to many lights. Shadows are disabled on them presumably for optimisation reasons (larger maximum ranges in UE4 take more power to calculate and adding dynamic shadows on top may cause issues)

not letting most lights in the game use dynamic lights just because they have larger max radii is a really annoying decision if intentional. You as the condo owner should be the one responsible for optimizing your own condo’s performance, not letting players use a feature on most of the items that should be able to use it because there’s a situation where it could cause more lag is really shitty, imo, and by the same logic workshop condo items and canvases should also be removed since you could use too many workshop items or too many large canvases

Having dynamic lights that overlap each other’s radii is the issue with optimization. Yes, I agree that condo owners are responsible for optimization of their condo, but currently we don’t have any tools to assist them with that.

I think once we provide these tools, which I want to start digging into with condo IO work, then we could start to remove certain limits.
