Disable Reflections

It would be great if there was an option to disable reflections. They are a huge drain on overall game performance. Without them, other games that also use UE4 perform much better, so I’d assume that TU would run much more smoothly on lower end PCs if reflections could be disabled.

Although I wouldn’t need this, it seems like a good idea to get more performance on lower-end computers.

Anything that helps increase my fps

indeed

IIRC there are options to fully disable reflections for that classic Source Engine look for mobile optimization, but I believe it’s on a material-by-material basis. There might be a different way to do this, but I haven’t fiddled around with that kind of stuff, so I wouldn’t know.

It’ll probably be an option later™ if it’s easy enough to implement (or maybe later-er if it’s hard to implement).

Setting r.SSR.MaxRoughness to a lower value can reduce the performance needed for processing screen space reflections. The default UE4 value is 0.8 and if you set it to something lower, reflections will appear very blurred. Hence if you set it to 0 there should be no SSR.

Shouldn’t reflections be disabled already if you play with lower graphics settings? I used to play on a mix between high and normal settings and I couldn’t see any reflections on any surfaces (at least I couldn’t notice any). After I got my GTX 1070 however I’m playing with everything on Ultra and now I can see them.

Makes sense to have a setting.

Just gonna bump this, cuz I’m playing on all of the lowest settings and still getting reflections, killing my FPS. )^:

If I am not mistaken, setting post processing to low will disable all reflections except for the condo mirror. The condo mirror only renders when you are looking at it, though.

I can have a look again if that is not the case.

Is there any possibility we’ll be able to disable the mirrors in the future? If I look in their direction, my framerate drops to about 12 FPS.

Also, sidenote; I seem to still get reflections on some surfaces. I’ll take some screenshots in the morning when I get a chance.

D’oh, I completely forgot about this thread. Anyways, turns out you’re right, no reflections on anything but the mirrors lol.
