I do enjoy the mario-like water movement, having to jump in the water to gain altitude.
Also we should probably explore the floor, cause I feel like someone put something down there.

This doesn’t confirm it. You can just go underwater. It would be a nice feature for sure but this does not confirm a single thing.
I do believe it was a joke
