Create second tier founder packs until the game exits Early Access

In order to increase revenue for the game during it’s early development stages, and to offer those who did not get the chance to back the kickstarter an opportunity to pay more for certain perks, I would like to suggest the introduction of a second wave founders pack.

For the record, I am NOT suggesting we resell the exclusive perks included in the Kickstarter tiers, as these were exclusive to founders and simply reselling these would be a kick in the face to early supporters. I am suggesting the limited time sale of some new exclusive cosmetic items and perks that can be purchased separately from the game at an extra cost, up until the end of Early Access.

This would mean that die-hard players who didn’t back the kickstarter but wanted to, would have a second opportunity to show their support to you if they want to throw some extra money towards the games development. Perks could include things like some exclusive furniture pieces, player names on a new plaque somewhere else in the plaza, some exclusive non-gameplay affecting gear, an extra copy of Tower Unite, etc.

I am making this partially because when the kickstarter was happening, I had no awareness of Tower Unites existence, so I never had the chance to throw money at the game although I definitely would have. Now that you have a much larger player-base I am sure that I am not alone, and I think this is a chance for the developers to further fuel the games development through those who want to throw a little extra money your way.

Mac said things like this will never happen.

Did he explain why? The practice is fundamentally the same as the founder perks that already exist.

The reason is because the devs have kept a promise to never add microtransactions to their game, so everyone can get every non-donator/backer item and play all of the games without needing to spend more than the game’s price.

Well that’s the thing, this would be the equivalent of backing, just at a later stage in development than the kickstarter as an opportunity for newer users to support the game further for a limited time.

I already hate that kickstarter people get exclusive items for spending money, and I don’t want to increase that gap any further to another sphere of players, even if I would benefit.

I wouldn’t mind at least getting a tag next to my name on the scoreboard after it’s out of early access though.

Don’t you feel that having a second wave of Early Access founders perks open for all the months leading to release would help close that gap? I’m not suggesting they include anything extravagant in this hypothetical pack, just a few minor exclusives that reward people who are willing to throw more money at the game during the Early Access period.

The whole strategy behind this would be to offer some exclusives to those who didn’t get the chance to be kickstarter backers over a longer period of time without hurting those who did back the game early on.

I appreciate the gesture, I sincerely do, but we’re not doing exclusive items (at a cost) in Tower Unite. We stand firm on delivering our promise to not include micro-transactions in our game.

Indiegogo rewards were a unique, one-time gift to the people who helped us get to where we are today. We are now fully focused on developing the game and fulfilling our promises to everyone.

If you wish to help us out financially, we suggest you pickup multiple copies of the game for your friends and invite them into the fun of Tower Unite.

A little disappointing to hear that but I definitely respect why you would take that stance. Thank you for the response at any rate, I’ll keep buying extra copies.

That’s what i’ve been trying to do. Planning to buy 3 copies for friends who want the game - and right now i’m only 69 cents off getting the soundtrack :confounded:

So, microtransactions?
