I was gonna mention whether or not the water in the condos were gonna be updated to the new style. I certainly would like to see that happen (in all condos).
Eh, I suppose it would be nice. Although I enjoy the old, more blue water better personally.
Just finished compiling a more-or-less comprehensive list of currently-unusable and previously suggested materials at the top of this thread, as well as a list of materials that have been added but would especially benefit from changes, fixes or additional variants. I’ll try to update this as more materials are suggested or added.
Also, I don’t think these are super necessary and the game’s carpet selection is already pretty alright, but at some point I’d love to see a new selection of patterned carpets. Like, tiled floors you might see in a hotel or office, or like, ornate/tacky designs. There’s a couple like this in-game, but they mostly have a vaguely-antique kinda look and they don’t often perfectly fit with whatever I’m trying to make, so some extra variety would be much appreciated.
Tiles are already available, they were one of the first materials I added when joining the team.
Since we seem to be getting a wet metal material, i’d like something similar but for wet grass for rainy environments.

The Slippery Metal material isn’t actually a wet version of metal, but that is a good idea.
Slippery Metal is just a variant of the Smooth Metal material that uses the Slide physmat (no-friction Ice physics), just a simple addition to make some construction easier (instead of having to embed Ice inside a thicker canvas with no collision).

More canvas piles would be useful, and this sorta ties into an older suggestion by rythian/Worms had for Terrain chunks (something I’ve wanted to do but never found the allotted time for it).
Still one of my favourite suggestions, but a really tough one to do.

I know it’s possible to recreate some using actual sky settings- these new sky textures can be useful as illusions for inside spaces with windows of outside views, works as fake sky in arcade/virtual/game/dreamy worlds and other cool little things like that!
oh :[ I wish there was a way to check off materials properties like that dynamically honestly, at least on custom textures at the minimum. Being able to change specular/metallic/diffuse on any surface too. I don’t know if that’s possible to be done dynamically with the in-game materials. Seems possible when customizing workshop models?

YES I know I can just use the Ball Race Tile item, the downside is that the item would need to be manually partitioned, positioned, scaled to look anywhere near as good - so my suggestion here is to make the material independent of the item and applicable to canvases and surfaces
In theory it’s not necessary to have something like the Ball Race Tile item, the materials themselves could just be added to the Surface Editor so that mappers can make use of them as they see fit, the problem is that the official maps have likely been constructed from them, and it would probably take major refactoring work to replace the existing tilework in official maps with something much more malleable (eg. canvas cubes)

Ball race tile trim texture (seen on the tile item, but not available as it’s own material, and this oasis variant in particular is not obtainable.
You shoulda included that in the Halloween Suggestion Megathread, I would’ve considered doing some stuff like that. As of now I haven’t been focusing on materials unless I make a tiling one for something else.
