With no disrespect to the creators of Tower, the condo editor has many bugs and using it efficiently can be a bit frustrating at times when you don’t understand why something isn’t working or is bugging out.
I thought we could make a list to help people who are unaware of these issues and find workarounds to use. I plan to keep this list updated as I (or you) discover new bugs to avoid.
Sometimes things just don’t make sense or work as intended. Don’t get discouraged; Tower is run by a small team so not everything can be fixed easily. Despite the flaws, Tower gives condo creators a lot of possibility! It’s frustrating to have bugs slow down your progress, but if you know all the workarounds and ways to avoid these problems then you can still create great things!
- Getting randomly stuck in place.
Workaround: Equip any vehicle to fix it otherwise you’ll have to press K to respawn.
If you’re an avid builder and do not own a vehicle, consider purchasing one from the Arcade.
- Physics items stashing themselves.
This is usually caused by hiding/ unhiding. Sometimes it will work fine, but the more you use this feature the more it’s likely to break and stash your items. I’ve had items that were stable for months, until I added something new and it caused them all to disappear.
Workaround: Instead, use movers or trapdoors to hide things out of view until triggered.
Untested Workaround Idea: Have all physics items visible on condo load, and then hide them afterward. This might prevent this problem.
- Undo feature not working right.
The creators are aware this feature is buggy, use with caution.
Workaround: If it’s something such as moving or scaling an object, copy your coordinates prior so that you can paste them back in, should the “undo” button not work. Never depend on the undo feature.
- Undo feature breaking with grouped items.
If you’re grouping large amounts of items (100+), the easiest way to make sure you have them all grouped is to move them and see if anything is left behind. Problem is, some items will not move back after you hit undo.. but they will still be a part of the group.
Workaround: Either ungroup the items that didn’t move, and move them as a new group or - place a reference block somewhere you can easily line up, and link it to the group. Then you can move things back into place by using the reference block. This does mean your coordinates will not be 100% the exact same as they were prior, but it gets the job done.
- I/O output pasting causing crashes.
Never copy I/O outputs to paste them into another connection. Your game will likely crash. It’s tedious, but just manually re-make them every time instead.
No known workaround.
- Many Connections on one button
Be cautious of effecting hundreds of things at once through a single button. Sometimes this can cause your game to crash.
Workaround: Link to multiple timers, each one effecting a batch of items.
Example: 4 timers with 100 connections each, linked to a button - instead of 400 connections directly on the button.
- Connected Button Lag
High amounts of buttons with connections can cause significant frame-drops. Be wary when creating crazy contraptions that utilize buttons. Is it worth the FPS drop across the entire condo? If not, consider using a new condo for what you wish to create.
No known workaround.
- Physics Items Not Respawning After Thrown
Sometimes it just won’t respawn.
Workaround: Use a timer that respawns it instead and/ or set up manual respawn buttons.
- Linked media screens not working for clients.
The only solution is to reconnect to the condo/ restart Tower and hope it works the next time.
No known workaround.
I know there’s many more, but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Will update the list as I think of more.
Some people may have not had all the problems I have, but it varies from user to user.
If you know of any major bugs and/ or have workarounds and solutions to bugs, please share them and I can add them to the list.
