August / September 2021 Survey Results

Man a lot of these answers indicate game worlds are the main draw for a lot of people. I always felt Plaza activities and Condos were way more active. I wouldn’t have guessed that, I’m out of touch I guess.

I will say the one thing I miss dearly from global chat was seeing game worlds launch. I love the update to the games port in plaza, but I feel like the server list for game worlds is still just so tucked away. It’s honestly been a while since I checked but I’m pretty sure the only way to view active games is from the main menu again. I wish I could see what servers were already running while in a condo or the plaza.

I’m pretty pleased with the results of the poll! Although there are a few things that I’ve got to bring up that I just don’t really get at all, and some that I disagree with but I understand why. I’m also gonna bring up some things I really like from the poll too. Aka, prepare for a big text dump with a bunch of dumb opinions from me.

IMO on “what would make you play Tower Unite more often”, Daily Rewards / Tasks should be number one, especially considering this poll kinda proved that most people play TU for the Game Worlds. There needs to be more to draw people to the plaza on non-holiday or event times, and daily rewards/tasks would absolutely get people to be more engaged and active in the game. I’m glad it’s at least the third highest though.

I’m seriously glad 2021 was such a huge year for Tower, the success is deserved for sure!

I’m not surprised at all about Horror Hill being such an exciting prospect for a new Game World, it easily has the most promise and we honestly need more AI-focused games as is. Slaughter Day Night Live will be pretty fun, and I hope Planet Panic will be better than when I first played it (was not a fan back when it was publically playable).

I’m surprised that the Casino’s future phases were outvoted by Bumper Cars, given that one of the earlier results on the poll showed people didn’t think too highly of the Casino in comparison (which would lead me to believe that people would be excited to vote for future phases so it could improve)!

Accelerate is super underrated, it’s such a fun game mode.

Despite me being absolutely bored of Virus’s “Hospital” map, let’s face it, the main reason it’s voted the highest is because people like to camp out in the upper corner of that staircase in the main waiting area. It’s kind of a boring map overall.

I feel like if the “Condo” condo cost credits, it wouldn’t be the top vote.

The “some maps pay out more units” question surprised me with the results, overwhelmingly “no.” I hear tons of complaints about credit payout in every game mode with difficulty settings, especially ball race.

Keep up the good work! Tower Unite is the best it’s ever been IMO and I think it’s gonna keep getting better!

Just want to hop in here and defend Hospital. The bit about the camping spot isn’t false, though I don’t think its an overpowered spot. I really like Hospital because its the closest to the atmosphere I want in Virus. I love that its an everyday place with a modern/civilian feeling. Overtime and Subway kinda meet this criteria, but Overtime has a distinct dark vibe with flashing emergency lights and Subway is just underground corridors at the end of the day (still a great map). Also Hospital gives me major cs_office vibes, which is hands down my favorite counter strike map.

I’d kill for a map that had a layout similar to the scale of Desertion, but with a modern city aesthetic.

Also totally unrelated

Super true. I myself neglect it, and when I do remember to hop in the tracks and music blow my mind. Looks good, sounds good, feels good.

It’s nice to see lots of fellow early access launch people! But also a really nice growth in 2021!

That’s strange. Minigolf is fun sometimes, but for the most part, its insanely frustrating for me. XD

I’ve had the exact opposite experience. I love Minigolf because it’s the least stressful of all the game worlds. But then again, I also really only play the easy courses. Lol

woow, little cruzaders was the most played minigame on gmod tower, how did this happen?

My theory is that because GMT was a Garry’s Mod addon that also required other games and content to be installed, people were more understanding of jank. Also because a lot of that content (CS:S, TF2, L4D, HL2) were firstperson shooters I imagine most people were probably pretty familiar with the general controls.

I also feel like TU appeals to a more casual audience that may not be as willing to wrestle with the jank of LC, even if it’s less jank than UCH, and also favor easier to grasp gamemodes like get the small ball in the hole and get the big ball in the hole. People also clown on the idea of taking LC seriously/playing competitively, so a lot of times I imagine that a new player joins a game, gets stomped by someone, doesn’t exactly know what to do due to lack of a thorough tutorial and just write it off as soon as they get any milestone items they may want. My mental image of the average-social-game player and Garry’s Mod player with a bunch of Valve games installed and other custom content are quite different.

or LC just sucks, lmao

As someone who actually really likes Little Crusaders this is still true for me. Even back in the GMT days, UCH was kinda overrun by people who played the hell out of it and stomped entire lobbies. The difference is that back then, we only had so many player slots / servers so it was always full regardless. You’d get games filled with noobs and few pros.

Nowadays, the only servers ever open for LC are usually run by diamond rank players who will always win and it makes it harder for new players to get involved. Also adding in the fact that most other modes can be played singleplayer whereas LC requires multiple players, there isn’t really an easy way to try it out and get better like the rest of the game worlds (unless you have a group of friends willing to join you every time).

I wrote a bit more than I intended to, but overall I do think LC just has a higher barrier to entry than the others. I imagine that it’s for a similar reason that Virus is the 2nd least played (I won’t count Accelerate since I feel like it’s too new and needs more content to be fairly judged).
