August 2024 Condo Contest (Sci-Fi)

Hey everyone!

The theme of this month’s contest is Sci-Fi!

So, think alien invaders, spaceships, laboratories, robots, high-tech cities, or anything else like that that reasonably fits the theme!

Your submission can be a regular Condo or a Workshop Game World Map. The submission should be something that was made after the contest was announced.

The submission period ends on September 2nd, 2024 at 11:59 PM CT.

Be sure to look at the prizes and follow the rules below!

Prizes:

• 1st Place - 2,000,000 Units
• 2nd Place - 1,000,000 Units
• 3rd Place - 750,000 Units
• 4th Place - 500,000 Units
• 5th Place - 300,000 Units

More Info

• Participation prizes (100k) are usually rewarded to participants, along with other bonuses for close contenders
• Depending on the amount of entries, prize amounts may be raised and placements may be adjusted

Rules:

• Must be appropriate content (no hate speech, nudity, etc.)
• Only make 1 submission post
• You can update your post until the deadline
• The submission cannot be something previously submitted to a Condo Contest.
• The first place winner(s) of the last Condo Contest won’t be included in the vote, but they are eligible for the participation prize

Exceptions

• If a Condo you have submitted to a previous contest has been significantly altered, decorated, redecorated to fit the theme, or has an addition that is the main focus of your images, that is allowed.

How To Submit:

• Post at least 3 screenshots of your Condo or Game World Map as a reply to this thread.

If you can’t upload images here, use an external image hosting service such as Imgur to embed the images.

• Include your Steam ID or a link to your Steam profile

• If you want a specific picture to be the thumbnail in the community vote, label it as the featured picture

• If you are submitting a co-op entry, please say that somewhere in your post

Co-Op Submissions:

• For co-op builds, only one person should submit the entry, include all participants’ Steam IDs, and mention its a co-op build. Winnings will be divided equally and may be adjusted.

• If people want to submit different parts of a co-op build as individual entries, the areas should be distinct from one another, there shouldn’t be pictures of the same things in multiple posts, and the post should only include one Steam ID.

Voting & Results

After the deadline has passed, the submissions are judged by community voting.

I will post a link to the community vote form in a reply to this thread and in dev-updates on the TU Discord.

I will post the winner announcement in the same places.

Developer commentary:
Build time was around 150 hours. This is the final map of my science fiction trilogy which included “Prometheus” and “Event Horizon”. The backrooms lore is considered science fiction.

Greetings! I present to you my Condo to participate in the August 2024 Sci-Fi contest: Quantum Suite!

Welcome to your new home of the future; a perfect apartment for the family model of 3024: 4 beds, spaces adaptable to any need thanks to modern technology, with an arcade room and a gym, a large lounge kitchen and 3 different living spaces for every occasion, from movie night with a mega screen, relaxing on a comfortable sofa or a hanging chair, up to a great evening with lifelong friends.
When you need to work from home, a large desk perfect for multiple computers at the same time overlooks the artificial zen pond, where you can read a good book or look at the stars out of the large portholes. And when you get bored of the stars you’ll discover that with just one button the entire second floor transforms into… a functioning bowling alley!
The safe included, the spacious bathroom with litter box for your cat and the 24-hour refill drinks station are just the icing on the cake of your new relaxation experience, one star at a time…

Thanks to I/O I created this hidden working bowling alley; as you can see in the video it is possible to play a complete game with all the basic rules and the classic grainy animations (in an alien style).
You can therefore gather with friends without a limit of players, just keep track of the score outside the game in that case.

For the bowling part alone, it took me 3 days of work for the I/O part and 1 for the design part, using a total of 18 movers between resetting and animations.

My goal is to bring you a condo that can be used by everyone: Quantum Suite in fact uses only 5 Workshop sounds from the same pack (Steam Workshop::GreenKing's Machinery SoundPack),
only 1 Workshop Object repeated 10 times and
no custom images,
resulting in a total of just 7MB of download for all of this that you have seen now!

I’m not a tech guru like everyone else. So I just used the default condo and renovated the basement. Now my seemingly peaceful condo hides an evil scientist’s lab. Horrible human dissection and biological weapons experiments are being conducted here!

Centrifuge condo tour

I spent 140+ hours building this starting on July 24th 2024, this build is detail oriented and IO heavy. There are many events and lots of things to poke and prod, mostly involving the 9 different signals you can process at the signal station. There are very few workshop items only used for small “collectables” and 2-3 items I wanted to have, everything else was made using lots… and lots of tower items. This map also features loads of custom made canvases and a sound pack with some iconic sounds as well as many handcrafted for the station (don’t worry its all very compressed)
