Warning! Post is pretty long, since I am writing this out of passion from being a TU member for years. A tl:dr is at the bottom if you wish to skip the rant.
I’m going to start off and say this change might be controversial, seeing how popular the Casino is right now, but I think the entire Casino’s payout needs to be tweaked for most machines and tables. Bingo and DoN are exempt from this.
As it stands, the Casino is still the way to make a ton of units really quickly. Games and events can be grinded, but the Casino always remains lucrative, and that’s okay! Risk/Reward is a good system when implemented well, but I think it’s too lucrative to the point it almost invalidates earning units anywhere else.
Let’s start off with the slot type machines. As a few of you might know, a few years back the machines got a nerf to the amount of credits added to a jackpot, as well as WoM getting an odds increase. While that was a good balance at the time, before Roulette, Bingo, and others, as it stands, the jackpots never feel really like a jackpot anymore. Considering how profitable and fast winning other games can be, many slot machines feel like they build a jackpot way to slow. My suggested fix would be reverting the change from years ago and make the credit:jackpot ratio 1:1 again.
Next up is the card games, including Blackjack, Poker, and their video machine equivalents. In my personal opinion, the video machines are okay for now, their payouts feel fair and balanced, and jackpots worth it, though the nerf to the Video Blackjack machine years back to add a “loading” sequence just makes the machine feel slow to play. Normal Blackjack is a bit steep with the 10,000 unit max bets, but I’m inconclusive on this one so far. Normal Poker (and 5 Card Draw) are exempt from these complaints, since their payouts are entirely player funded, and I feel like the different max bet tables work well.
Now, the main offender of the imbalance and one of the main reasons I am making this post: Roulette. As it stands now, Roulette has the possibility to be extremely profitable with high odds of winning big in comparison to other machines/tables. Of course, that does not come without a cost, but the winnings are so profitable and so quick, all it takes is a single lucky call to win an extreme amount of units, compared to sitting on a slot machine for a few hours or even days and winning only a couple of hundred thousand units from the slowly accumulated jackpot.
I did a quick scenario in my mind to put in perspective how one can “game” the system to win huge.
With Roulette rolling 38 different numbers, (1-36, 0 and 00) it gives each spot a roughly 2.6% chance of being landed on. Lets say you luckily bet 200,000 units on a single number and won first try.
Considering you win with a 1:35 bet, you have made a profit of 7,000,000 units! That’s 7 art contents worth, or 1.4 million knives! With just one lucky call!
It doesn’t end there. Lets say you continue to bet your 7 million unit winnings on more 200,000 unit bets. That equals 35 bets before you burn through your winnings. Seeing the chance of one random number being pulled is 1/38, that leaves you a 35/38, or around 92% chance to win more money then you spend. You can quickly use these odds to build an insane amount of units, and that’s not even considering higher chance bets like red or black, or dozens and rows.
I see the main defense of these high bet limits is high risk high reward, but, all it takes is one lucky user to win 7 million units from a call and divvy it up to other players for them to spend/gamble, and you end up with a Casino of millionaires. I think making Roulette more “rigged” wouldn’t solve the issue, as all it results in is the same big winners, but fewer and far in-between. I would recommend lowering the max bet of Roulette by a lot, slowing the possible winnings to a couple of thousand for high stakes instead of a couple of million.
Horse Betting has the same issues, though on a smaller scale and lower max winnings, with a 1.2 million win being the highest. While the Horse Betting odds are less clear cut then Roulette, even with voting on a horse to show can bring in gradual but high winnings, so I would recommend removing the 10,000 chip bet outright.
Keno is last here, and Keno is infamously unprofitable, though I have heard rumors the dev’s are aware of this. I have not much to say on this, other than the odds of winning and earnings need a fair increase to make it worth it.
tl:dr Slot machines build jackpots too slow to be worth, Video Poker is too slow, Roulette can be used to make millions of units in an instant, and Horse Betting also has very high payouts. I recommend a nerf to the max amount of units that can be bet on these games.
