[1.0.0.0] Softlock on Entering Condo

Summary:
Upon entering my condo (ice moon), there is a roughly 80% chance that player becomes “softlocked” once the map has loaded.

I use “softlock” to describe the following state:

  • Unable to move
  • Unable to look around
  • Unable to open quick inventory menu
  • Unable to use “kill” button
  • Unable to open chat window
  • UI shows a health bar at 0 health
  • where UI bottom-right normally shows Q for inventory and C for character, only shows C for character
  • Still able to open advanced edit mode- but cannot move or look around
  • Can access condo menu
  • Can access ESC menu

Steps to Reproduce

  • Join my condo
  • If it doesn’t happen the first time, join it again.

What I expected to happen

Enter condo normally.

What happened

Upon entering the condo, once the map is loaded, players (including me) are softlocked.

If I press escape, exit to menu, and re-enter my condo, there is a roughly 80% chance of softlocking again. I sometimes need to re-enter my condo 5 to 10 times in order to successfully enter.

I can tell this affects other users, as the chat log is full of players joining and then leaving less than a minute later without saying anything (and they never show as having fully loaded into the map).

Notes / Media

  • Condo has no workshop items.

  • Condo has only 1 external image to load, and removing it does not affect the issue.

  • Condo has a custom spawn point. When this issue occurs, you are either locked at original world spawn, or the custom spawn point.

  • Original world spawn is not blocked.

  • Placing a teleporter at spawn does not help.

  • You can look around for a brief moment while world loads, but once finished, your view is locked to that position.

  • I first experienced this issue in 0.18.9.0 Early Access, but I am still experiencing the issue on this most recent release.

Try moving your custom spawn point up higher off the ground. The game is trying to spawn you there and is unable to. Make sure no other items is intersecting the spawn point.

That did it! Spawn was on an inclined surface which was probably causing the issue. Moved it approximately 1 player height upward and now I’m able to join every time.

Thanks!
