[0.17.10.0] No Workshop Models on Linux

No workshop models will load while playing Tower on Linux through Proton. All versions of Proton, including ProtonGE, do not resolve this problem. As a result I am playing with just transparent default models.

This also applies to workshop items in condos, which will also not load. At the bottom of my screen I will see the steam workshop logo UI load forever.

My PC specs are at the bottom, along with an attached screenshot.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Tower Unite on Arch Linux
  2. Force compatability by selecting a Proton version
  3. Log into any populated server or condo, you will not see any workshop models load

What I expected to happen

I expected to see other people’s workshop models or items.

What happened

No workshop models or items will ever load.

I can confirm that I am also facing this issue on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, tried with multiple versions of proton same as OP. Workshop content loads fine on my Windows PC with the same in-game settings, on the same network.

Some people were saying that disabling the new steam family share beta in their steam client fixed the issue but I was unable to replicate this. With the beta enabled and disabled on both my Linux machine and Windows machine each, the Linux machine never was able to load workshop content whereas the Windows machine was.

Although I think this may be a hint in the right direction as Workshop content and the family share system are closely tied in together on the steam back-end I believe.

Having the same issues, also on Arch but I wanted to just point out my Steam client auto updated right before this started happening and its not the only strange behavior I’ve seen. The client in general is just way less stable for me now and I’ve had all kinds of bugs.

Steam for Linux has an issue tracker so it may be valuable to report this issue if it is a problem on their end and not Towers.

Unfortunately this sorta stuff is nothing new despite me not being a part of the steam beta. Valve simply ships broken updates on Linux it feels like a few times a year.
