[0.14.2.2] Rocks are all sorts of Crusty

I don’t exactly know when this happened, but it seems to have been a slow decay of the Rock items.
Literally every rock item but Clean Rock and Boulder Friend have problems. Here’s a full list of issues:

  • Neither Martian Rock Stairs or Martian Rock Gravel are able to be recoloured anymore. Before this happened, they had a really weak tint.
  • Sandy Rock Pile’s “Sand” layer isn’t actually tied to the sand.
  • The Sandy Rock Pile uses a material we have no access to, almost entirely defeating its purpose of blending with scenery. The material also does not use the correct Normal map (instead using the rock’s detail normal), this can be seen when compared to the material in maps like Resort
  • Most of the “Weathered Rock” items have a layer of dirt caked to the upward side of the object. This dirt used to blend with the colour of the rock, but at some point it became grey and opaque. It looks really bad and makes those items stand out.
  • Also of note: many “Weathered Rock” items still use their old (extra crunchy) normal maps which do not mesh with the current art style.

Notes / Media

Martian Rock items lack of tint:

Note: they are using the same shade of purple as the Clean Rock to the left.

Sandy Rock Pile:

Note: the “Rock” layer affects the sand, while the “Sand” layer does nothing.

Note: the “Sand” on the item doesn’t use the correct Normal, Specular, etc maps when compared to the proper material.

Weathered Rocks:

Note: The crust is present on all but 3 and 4 (to the right), Gravel Fine’s “Rock 1” layer, and Gravel Coarse’s “Rock 4” layer.

Note: the exaggerated Normal maps on the left (yellow) rocks which do not blend with the softer new Normal map of the right (purple) rocks. The Yellow rocks still use the newer stylised Detail Normal map on top of their older one.

I’ll take a look into this.

This should all be resolved in 0.14.3.0 now.
