when you shoot at the wall and go close to a decal, you can see it on your weapon
when someone shoots at you, you will see the decals on the weapon
This is how decals are done in Unreal. They project onto any surface. Other than creating a decal system if our own (which is no easy or simple task, but we have discussed doing this), we cannot truly fix this issue. I could look into a few other ways to improve it, but generally the decals in Unreal engine 4 suck.
